Retro USB Lounge Lamp

USB Volcano Lamp

Sometimes we have to include the silly, like this USB Volcano Lamp. At a size of 246 x 80 x 80mm, you simply add half of the bag of lava beads and water and let the phony fireworks begin. The light can also be powered up by 2 AA batteries (not included,) and features fan and LED on/off buttons. The volcano comes with a bag of beads, USB cable, and a guide for the inept. Mr. P Doglamp Fans of Mr. P will be pleased to know that there is a Doglamp to accompany him. Made of metal and plastic, the pup’s head can be adjusted vertically for reading or general lighting. The lamp can be dimmed in low, medium, or bright by giving him a pat on the head. At a size of 30 x 43.3 x 43.8cm and a weight of 1.5k, it uses a maximum of a 40W bulb (one clear one included.) The Doglamp also comes with a UK plug and has a price of 99.90€ (~$140.00.)

Recipe: Avocado Salad Wraps

It’s summer, and the food lobe of my brain turns to one thing when the weather starts warming up - avocados. Being on the East Coast, avocados are definitely my favorite summertime-only indulgence, and they are well worth the wait in all of their forms. Another recipe from Clean Eating magazine, these Avocado Salad Wraps are fantastic as a light lunch or, when paired with some bread or tortillas, a stove-free dinner on a hot day.

Ingredients:

2 T Dijon mustard
1 medium ripe avocado, diced
1 medium ripe tomato, chopped into pieces the same size as the avocado
1/4 cup cilantro
lime juice (optional)
4 big lettuce leaves (romaine works great)

Preparation:
Combine the first four ingredients in a bowl. If the wraps aren’t going to be eaten right away, toss some lime juice into the bowl with the salad.

Divide the salad between the 4 lettuce leaves, wrap and enjoy! Or, if you’re like me, eschew the lettuce altogether and eat the salad straight out of the bowl.

d.light Lamps are Inexpensive Alternatives

Nova A new start up company from Stanford Business School, d.light, is working to help those who don’t have access to electricity to light up their lives. Based in New Delhi, India, they have designed lamps for those who live on only about $1.00 a day. The Nova comes in both solar and AC chargeable models, and is 30 to 50% more efficient than fluorescent light for up to 40 hours. The company is hoping that the high-powered LED displays will replace dangerous and costly kerosene lanterns. They come at a price of $15.00 to $30.00, if the buyer wants both chargers.
