HP Mini-Note review

Amidst a flurry of small and seemingly underpowered netbooks, has taken a slightly different tact in their release of the surprisingly capable HP device. While its up-to-$850 price tag places it in a significantly different category than the and other cheap sub-notebooks, it easily makes up for this price difference with functionality and power approaching that of its larger siblings: full sized laptops.

Bleeding Edge TV 267: A look at the Voodoo Envy 133

While the has long reigned as the king of sleek and sexy laptops the newly announced manages to beat it in terms of both computing power, and clean sexy design. The Envy features a carbon fiber case (with an option for the automotive finish of your choice), and a revolutionary new AC adapter with an Ethernet port and a dedicated 802.11n router to allow wired connections without wires. The Envy 133 clocks in at 0.7” thick which dethrones the Macbook Air as the thinnest laptop on the market, while still managing to pack 2 USB ports (one of which is eSATA compatible), HDMI, and an ExpressCard slot.

NEC ShieldPRO Heavy Duty Notebook

ShieldProWhat a fun job NEC testers must have. The company has just unleashed their ShieldPRO heavy duty notebook. It is dust and water resistant, can handle a 90cm drop, and temperatures of -20 to 50 C. With an Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 CPU at 1.0Ghz and a LED-backlit 12.1 inch LCD with 750cd/m2 brightness, it also has GPS, an SD card slot, and 12 hours of battery life. The ShieldPro, packed with Windows XP Professional, should be out sometime this month.

Sanrio drags out another Hello Kitty creation with its new laptop. The Epson Endeavor NH2100 has a 15.4-inch TFT WXGA display, Intel’s Celeron 540(1.86GHz) CPU, Windows Vista Home Premium, 1GB RAM, 80GB ATA/5400rpm HDD, DVD-ROM/CD-RW, and IEEE 802.11b/g wireless LAN and Ethernet connectivity. Choose one of the two model designs and expect to pay 147,000 yen ($1,410.00) towards the end of the month in Japan. We wonder if Paris Hilton will want one after reading that she had a Hello Kitty Doll designed with her likeness.

Cizmo CX 15 Notebook

Where else but on the Internet can you discover other countries’ electronics? Germany’s Cizmo’s new notebook is for work or play. The CX15 features a 15.4-inch HD display, an Intel 45nm Penryn processor,an 8 x dual layer DVD burner, a 2 megapixel webcam, a fingerprint reader, and holds from 2 to 4GB memory. Optional are Wi-Fi, OS, and Bluetooth capabilities. The Cizmo CX15 starts at €1,259.66 (~$2,400.00) and will be available this June.

Intel 2go is Low Cost

Another laptop has entered the competition at minimal cost. In addition to the Asus EEE and the OLPC, the Intel 2g0 PC has also been designed mainly for students. It features an Intel Celeron M CPU with 915GMS chip,  512 MB RAM (which is upgradeable to 1GB,) and 40GB storage. The 9-inch device also has a 800 x 480p resolution, and room for an SD card. Available in the next couple of months, the 2go should retail for ~$400.00.
