MSI Wind Neton Nettop

First there were laptops, then netbooks, now MSI is launching its Wind Neton that they describe as a nettop. All three have a thickness of 35mm and will feature Atom dual-core processors, Windows XP/Vista, and options of touchscreen, remote, and Blu-ray. The M-16 has a 15.6-inch screen (1366x768) and will be out in February with a price of $400.00. The M-19, with its 18.5-inch screen (1366x768) debuts in January with a $500.00 tag and the M-22 (1920x1080) with a 22-inch screen will come out in March with a MSRP of $799.00.

OLPC Give One Get One at Amazon

Once again, the OLPC project is offering its Give One Get One deal. This time it will be on Amazon. For $399.00, your child and one in another country will receive one of the colorful XO laptops. The company is still hoping to lower the price to $100.00, but so far increasing product costs have prevented it. About 473,000 units have been placed in 31 countries thus far. Order now in the U.S. and UK and get your XO this year. We are thinking that if you want to give your kids a great present for the upcoming holidays, he/she would love to know that they helped another child somewhere else.

Dell Announces The Inspiron Mini 12: $600, 12-inch display

Dell-Inspiron-Mini-12 Dell has officially announced the newest member to their netbook family of mini laptops, the Inspiron Mini 12. The Mini 12 comes with an Intel Atom Z520 1.3GHz or the Z530 1.6GHZ processor, 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, Bluetooth, WiFi, a Webcam and a 12-inch display. The laptop comes loaded with Windows Vista Home Basic, and has a starting price of less than $600. The Mini 12 is currently only available in Japan, but will come to the U.S. soon.

The specs make this a very capable machine, but running Vista with only 1GB of RAM make take some of the wind out of its sprint. You could always load it with XP when it arrives and then have a very fast machine, the likes of the MacBook Air, but for a fraction of the price.

HP Teases Mini 1000 Netbook

HP is now showing this new Mini 1000 Netbook on their online store. The Mini 1000 is not yet available to purchase and when clicking HP’s link, it brings you to their main store where it is nowhere to be found. They do however give you the price and some general specs. The mini laptop sports a nice gloss black finish on the outside, with a matte black finish inside. The price starts at $399 and comes in at 2.25 pounds, has a 10-inch screen and is under 1-inch thick. We can assume the Mini 1000 will carry the Intel Atom processor, but there is no confirmation of that just yet. If using an Atom processor, this Netbook from HP should provide a nice jump over previous Via chipsets in HP’s past offerings. You should be able to do all the internet has to offer, including videos, music and more with a fullsize experience for such a small piece of gear.

Those days are ending; water damage is obviously a violation of the AppleCare warranty, and the new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers, introduced last week, include what cellphones have had for years: Liquid Submersion Indicators, which alert technicians to water damage. Located under the keyboard and near the trackpad, the sensors change color when exposed to a liquid. Once these sensors are activated, there is no way to undo the process, so you’re just gonna have to fess up next time, so please - no more Shirley Temples near the hardware, okay?

There are wooden speakers and environmentally correct ones, but what if you could combine the two? That’s exactly what Woodchuck’s Woodgrain iPod/Laptop Speakers do. Available in both light and dark models, the speakers are surrounded in heavy duty cardboard and arrive flat. DIY and can they make you look hot without damaging your budget. We found the semi-recyclable devices available for only $13.50 a pair. We figure if the outsides wear out, you can use them as a pattern to make new ones with that leftover shoebox you couldn’t quite throw away.

Sony ‘007 Quantum of Solace Laptop

Sony’s ‘007 Laptop, in honor of Quantum of Solace, is about to arrive in a limited edition of 700. It features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3G Internet connectivity, 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 13.3-inch LED backlit LCD. It also has a 128GB SDD or 320GB hard drive, a fingerprint reader, a Motion Eye camera and Blu-ray drive. At a price of about $4,000.00, it should be out later this month encased in a carbon fiber chassis. Sadly, it cannot shoot bullets out the back end or shake or stir your martini.
