Apple iPhone 5 LTE partners: AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and more

During this morning's iPhone 5 event, Apple announced that the iPhone 5 would support LTE, and the list of carriers is huge, spanning the globe. In the US, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon will all support the new iPhone LTE capabilities. Over in Canada, Bell, Rogers, Fido, Virgin Mobile, Telus, and Koodo are all ready for iPhone 5 LTE action. Where Europe is concerned, T-Mobile and the new EE network in the UK are on board. Asia will see Softbank, SKT, KDDI, KT, SmarTone, and SingTei all offering iPhone 5 LTE connectivity. All that said, get ready for much, much faster LTE data if you happen to live in an LTE-supported area, and watch your data caps!

Sharp Solar Powered Waterproof Cell Phone

Sharp and Japanese mobile network KDDI have teamed for a new cell phone that should please anyone who is trying to help the planet. The cellie has a solar panel in its lid that will recharge in direct sunlight up to 10 minutes. That will give it one minute of talk time or 2 hours of standby, and the panel can contribute up to 80% of the total power supply. The handset is also waterproof and expected out in June.

KDDi Corporation has unveiled a new mobile phone for the summer hoping that many will subscribe to their au Smart Sports Run and Walk service. Toshiba’s Sportio, a handset that features an acceleration sensor and GPS, keeps track of how many steps you take, how far you have gone, and how many calories you used up in its Calorie Counter mode. Place it in Beat Run mode and you can compose music by jogging to special tracks. The phone features a 2.2-inch TFT (240 x 320), a 2 Megapixel camera, and a 1 Seg Tuner. Available in orange or red, the Sportio is also Bluetooth capable so you can take it with you wherever you trot.

Infobar 2 Makes Japanese Debut

The Japanese company KDDI, in cooperation with Sanyo, has unveiled its Infobar 2 cell phone, the newest generation of the original created in 2003. The device features a 2.6-inch OLED, supports 1-Seg for mobile and reserved TV on its tuner, a 2M cam and a micro SD expansion slot. At a size of 47 × 138 x 15.5 mm and a weight of 104g, the battery allows about 290 minutes of talk time or 350 standby. Check with Sanyo for price and availability on this side of the planet.
