Box Office Breakdown: ‘Oblivion’ Makes a Great Impression

There's a reason why action films want to cast Tom Cruise - one of today's highest-paid actors - and the numbers from his latest film's weekend debut certainly spell it out.

His futuristic sci-fi flick Oblivion took the number one spot at the box office this weekend with $38.1 million, bumping down last week's top film 42 down to second place with $18 million. The animated family film The Croods stayed put at number three with a solid $9.5 million while Scary Movie 5 fell two spots to number four with $6.2 million. G.I. Joe: Retaliation rounded out the top five with $5.7 million.

Sequel News: Four Brothers, Jurassic Park and More


Four Brothers: How do you follow a film like Four Brothers? Well, you apparently add another brother. Paramount is currently developing Five Brothers, a sequel to the 2005 entry. Details of the film are not known, but Mark Wahlberg has already expressed interest in returning.

Sci-Fi Movie Memorabilia Auction

Blaster GunHere is another chance to get your own hunk of memorabilia with the Forry Ackerman Profiles in History’s spring auction. Grab Harrison Ford’s blaster gun from “Blade Runner” (for at least $100,000,) an animation puppet from “Corpse Bride” (for $6,000 to $8,000,) or one of the dinosaurs used in “Jurassic Park” ($2,000 to $3,000.) The auction will take place April 30 and May 1 and you can register or order a catalog from PIH.

Choose between the T-800 Endoskeleton from “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” ($80,000 opening bid,) Jean Luc Picard’s “Enterprise E” command chair from the Star Trek film ($45,000 open,), or a screen-used, full-scale T-Rex head from “Jurassic Park” ($60,000 opening bid.) For a few less bucks, you may be able to score Geordi’s Visor from “Star Trek: Generations” ($2,000 minimum.) Taking place December 13 and 14, if you win the lotto by then, show up yourself in Calabasas Hills, CA., or mail, phone, or fax a bid via eBay.
