How to tether your iPhone 3G to your laptop

iPhone 3G tether

With the launch of , many have been waiting and hoping for a method that would allow tethering of the iPhone to a mobile computer like, say, a MacBook. Well, lucky for your mobile warriors, that time has finally come - it’s just takes a bit of work to get it functioning. Do remember, though, that AT&T isn’t offering any sort of tethering plan with the iPhone, so if you get caught, you may be forced to pay a bunch of money out of pocket. Or your service could be shut off. Still, if that isn’t something that matters to you, then click on through for the instructions, provided by my pal Nate True. He took a bunch of different pieces of software and solutions, and mixed them together into a powerful concoction that allows you to use your iPhone 3G as a modem by way of 3Proxy, Terminal, and WiFi. Now all we need are batteries for the iPhone 3G that don’t die in a matter of seconds.

iPhone Tattoo Protector Set

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Misc. Tech,

iPhone ProtectorMost of them are rather girly, but if you have a 4, 8, or 16 GB iPhone, you might want to grab a Tattoo Protector Set. The transparent screen guard protects against dirt and scratches, and comes with graphic wallpaper. Brando claims that the Tattoos reduce eye strain by filtering UV light from the display with a minimal effect on the brightness level. Reusable, the covers go for a mere $12.00 per set.

E3 2008: Live from the EA Media Briefing

We are seated for the Electronic Arts E3 2008 Media Briefing. We start the conference off right, with a montage of a ton of upcoming titles, focusing on some new sports titles, upcoming Sims releases, and a bunch of casual games like Monopoly, Boogie, and Operation (aw yeah!) Of course, Spore is also featured here as well.

John Riccitiello hits the stage to talk about what EA has this afternoon to show us, and he says they won’t be doing PowerPoint, statistics, or sales figures. Instead, they are going to focus on the games, and we will be hearing from the people that make the games.

Rod Humble of The Sims Studio comes out to talk about The Sims. He announces Sim Animals. in this game you create groups of animals and their friends, habitat, etc. Some animals are friendly like deer and rabbits, while wolves and bears can stir up trouble. We then get a trailer. We get a baby cub bear interacting with a squirrel, and then a fox joins the fray. It seems that you basically control the game by using the world as your UI, you have a hand similar to Black and White. Will be exclusive to and Nintendo DS in January 2009.

Unboxing Live 039: Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones

The Beats by Dre headphones were originally announced at CES 2008, where we were able to get our first experience at listening to the headset. As we noted in our video back then, we were thoroughly impressed. The sound was killer, with fantastic bass. The headphones were well thought out, shipping with audio cables that fit into the original iPhone, and even including a cable that has a microphone on it so that you can take phone calls.

The Beats by Dr. Dre were conceived by Dr. Dre himself, and are mutually designed with Monster Cable. The headphones feature both a unique and futuristic style, as well as newly developed sonic technologies, which result in outstanding performance.

In this episode, we unbox the Beats by Dr. Dre. Included in the box are the headphones themselves, a red audio cable (which fits into the original ), a customized iSoniTalk cable (which also fits into the iPhone, and has a microphone so that you can use the Beats to talk on the phone), cleaning cloth, a studio jack, and protective carrying case.

You can find them soon for $349.95, which is $50 less than they were originally announced for.

Unboxing Live 038: Apple iPhone 3G, White and Black, unboxed in Apple Store

After a long and arduous wait and a somewhat aggravating purchase experience, we had to insist that the folks at the Apple store allow us to film this episode of Unboxing Live. Obviously, we are unboxing the 16GB iPhone 3G, in both black and white flavors. Included with the iPhone are iPhone earbuds, a Dock cable, and a new tiny USB power brick. It also comes with a SIM removal tool, a cleaning cloth, and the ever-present Apple stickers. Conspicuously missing from the package is the iPhone 3G stand-up dock, which is sold separately for $20.

Our iPhone 3G purchase review: Campout trip from hell

iPhone 3G activation

UPDATE: Watch the full video of our iPhone 3G line experience.

We had no idea that our quest to grab a few units at launch here in the Seattle area would turn out to be an utter fiasco. Last year, when the original iPhone launched, we had a much longer wait in line (over 19 hours versus just over 8 hours) last year, and were further back in the line to boot. However, it was a complete failure on both and AT&T’s part in making sure that the experience went as smoothly as possible.

Oh, sure, we finally have our iPhone 3Gs working and in good shape, but it took much, much longer to get them in that condition than it should have. Read on as we relive the events that took place earlier this afternoon at the Alderwood Mall Apple Store. Oh, and credit for that photo of Sparky walking out after being first in line goes to Jim Valley.

Poll: How did your iPhone 3G launch day purchase go?

We already told you about our crazy iPhone 3G launch day purchase fiasco, but now we wanna hear from you guys. Was what we experienced accurate? Did you just end up flying through purchase and activation, with no problems at all? Or was your experience more like ours, where things seemed to go wrong at every turn? Let us know!

In Seattle? We will be giving away iPhone gear at Alderwood Mall Apple Store tonight!

Alderwood Mall iPhone 3G

Hey Seattle line-waiters - Gear Live is gonna be in full effect at the Alderwood Mall Apple Store starting tonight at midnight. We are gonna be in line to make sure we get our hands on a white iPhone 3G, and we figured that instead of sitting around like a bunch of geeks who sit in line waiting for a cell phone launch (which we totally aren’t), we would have some fun. We will have a bunch of iPhone accessories available that we will be giving away, and we will have an early preview of Tap Tap Revenge to show off. We will do some one-on-one games in Tap Tap, and winners will get some cool gear.

We will also have our cameras with us as well so we can get all your opinions and thoughts on all things Apple for Bleeding Edge TV. So if you are in the area and plan on waiting in line for iPhone 3G to launch in the morning, hit up the Alderwood Mall location with us. We promise that our awesomeness won’t kill you.

EDIT: I am andruedwards on Twitter. I know a bunch of you are on that.
