iOS 6 to be released on September 19
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Handhelds, Rumors, Software

We just received a fairly obvious tip that makes perfect sense to us--Apple is set to release iOS 6 to the general public on September 19th. That would put its release two days before the rumored launch date of the iPhone 5, which is in line with all iOS software release ever since iPhone OS 2.0 launched a couple of days prior to the release of the iPhone 3G back in July of 2008. We expect that Apple will release a Golden Master version of iOS 6 tomorrow after the iPhone 5 event.
iOS 6 brings new features like Passbook, shared Photo Streams, expanded Siri functionality, Apple Maps, and more, and will be compatible with the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, ipod touch (fourth generation,) and all iPads.

It’s official: Apple will unveil iPhone 5 on September 12
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Corporate News, Handhelds

It's been rumored and expected that Apple would announce the iPhone 5 on September 12, and this morning it's been confirmed. In fact, based on the official invitation from Apple, not only has the date been confirmed, but the name of the next iPhone seems to be locked in as well. As you can see above, the 12 is putting off a shadow in the shape of a 5. Of course, the iPhone 4 was actually the fourth iPhone that Apple released, but if the next device truly is called iPhone 5, it will be the sixth iPhone released by the company. Odd, but for the average consumer, we think it makes the most sense (new iPad, notwithstanding.)
The iPhone 5 is expected to sport a new 1136x640 16:9 widescreen display, a thinner profile, and ship with newly redesign Apple headphones. Check out all the iPhone 5 news and rumors we compiled thus far.
Just how thin will the next iPhone be?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Design, Handhelds, Rumors

It's pretty much a given that Apple likes to make its products as thin as possible, and it looks like the next-generation iPhone 5 will get that same treatment. An image has been put together by Sohu that shows what the next iPhone looks like compared against the iPhone 4S and iPhone 3GS in terms of thickness. As you can see, the front and back glass don't protrude from the metal frame, making the next iPhone even thinner if the leaked design is to be believed. We'll know for sure on September 12.

Help stop AT&T from blocking FaceTime over Cellular from the majority of its customers
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Corporate News, Wireless / WiFi
The fine folks over at FreePress are asking the public to take action in an attempt to convince AT&T to reconsiders its position on blocking iOS 6 feature FaceTime over Cellular for all customers unless they switch to a Mobile Share plan. It's an obvious money-grab, a way to encourage its unlimited data users to leave those plans behind, and it shows preferential treatment on how users can use their own data plans. We're signing, and we encourage you to do the same. According to Public Knowledge:
“By blocking FaceTime for many of its customers, AT&T is violating the FCC’s Open Internet rules. These rules state that mobile providers shall not ‘block applications that compete with the provider’s voice or video telephony services.’ Although carriers are permitted to engage in ‘reasonable network management,’ there is no technical reason why one data plan should be able to access FaceTime, and another not. ‘Over-the-top’ communications services like FaceTime are a threat to carriers’ revenue, but they should respond by competing with these services and not by engaging in discriminatory behavior.”

Apple releases (PRODUCT) RED bumper for iPhone 4S and 4 with iPhone 5 around the corner
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Accessories, Apple, Cell Phones
Apple is set to unveil its next-generation iPhone 5 in a little over three weeks, but that hasn't stopped the company from releasing a new accessory for the iPhone 4 and 4S. The new (PRODUCT) RED bumper fits and works with the iPhone 4S, as well as the iPhone 4 from two years ago. It's $29 and joins the black, white, blue, orange, green, and pink bumpers in the Apple lineup. Oddly, it doesn't ship for 6-8 weeks, when the next iPhone launches. Buyer beware--if you plan on picking up the next iPhone, just realize that this bumper won't fit that model.

How the iPad mini will look next to the iPad and iPhone 4S
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Design, Handhelds, Rumors

Earlier today we gave you a look at what the 7.85-inch iPad should look like based on leaked schematics. That said, sometimes you need context to get a true feel for these things, and 9to5Mac put together another image that shows how the iPad mini mockup stacks up against the third-generation iPad and the current iPhone 4S. As you can see, it's enough of a difference to make it a standalone produce, resting between the iPhone display size and the larger iPad. Anyone else excited about this one yet? We're expecting to hear more about the iPad mini during Apple's September 12 iPhone event.

Sprint slashes price of iPhone 4S by $50, now starts at $149
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Hot Deals

If you just can't wait until September 21 to get your hands on the new iPhone 5, Sprint just cut the price of the iPhone 4S by $50. You can now get a 16GB iPhone 4S for $149.00, 32GB model for $249.99, and the 64GB version for $349.99 with two-year contract. You've gotta get it directly from Sprint, though, as ordering directly from Apple won't give you the discount. Sprint is also still selling the iPhone 4, but the price on that one is still $99 for an 8GB version with no price cut to be seen. This is obviously in reaction to the news that Apple is set to introduce the next iPhone on September 12, which is set to go on sale on September 21.
