white iphone 4

Just four days ago, Steve Jobs said that the white iPhone 4 would be available at the end of July in limited quantities. Well, it looks like he spoke a bit too soon. This morning Apple released a brief statement letting us know that the will not ship this month. In fact, the only timetable they are comfortable providing is that it will ship sometime between August 1 and December 31. See for yourself:

Statement by Apple on White iPhone 4

CUPERTINO, Calif., July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/—White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

If you wanted a white one, just remember, your purchase date affects your upgrade date. If you wait too long, you’ll be left out when iPhone 5 gets released.

Apple sells 600,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders on day one

iPhone 4

just announced that, in the first day of pre-orders, when all was said and done they had 600,000 units reserved. All of a sudden it becomes crystal clear why people had problems placing an order for the new Apple smartphone, seemingly from the moment it went on sale all the way through…well…right now. Demand for the iPhone 4 is seemingly about ten times higher than what we saw for the iPhone 3GS. Both Apple and AT&T are sold out of day one pre-orders, so if you want to be certain that you’ll get an iPhone 4 on June 24th, you are going to want to line up at one of the other third-party retailers selling iPhone 4 at launch.

ATT won’t have any white iPhone 4 units at launch [UPDATED]

At&T white iphone 4 delay

So tomorrow is when pre-orders start for the , and it looks like an internal AT&T document shows that the carrier won;t have any of the white iPhone 4 units in stock at launch. As you can see in the image, if correct, you’ll be able to get an iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS in black from AT&T at launch. You can also pre-order these models starting tomorrow. However, the white iPhone 4 won’t be available from AT&T until “later this summer.”

We are gonna assume that, if true, this will be the case with other third-party stores that will be offering the iPhone 4 on launch day as well. Stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Radio Shack will all sell iPhone 4 on day one, but if AT&T won’t have white for launch, we are guessing that Apple is keeping the white ones to themselves. In fact, Deutsche Telekom just announced on Twitter that they won’t have the white iPhone 4 at launch either. That means you’ll need to pre-order from Apple for delivery, or wait in line at an Apple Store.

UPDATE: As it turns out, even Apple won’t have white iPhone 4 units available at launch!

Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Best Buy to sell iPhone 4 on June 24

iPhone 4 Wal-Mart

Looks like is looking to thin some of those long iPhone lines that have become a yearly summer tradition. It has just been announced that Wal-Mart will be selling the on June 24th, which is the day the phone goes on sale. In the past, Wal-Mart would sell iPhones well after the launch date, so this is a first for them. It’s smart, as there are way more Wal-Mart stores in the country than Apple stores.

In addition, Radio Shack has been telling customers that they would also be selling the new iPhone on launch day as well, bringing that store back into relevancy for the first time since 1992. Lastly, Best Buy has yet to officially announce launch day plans, but they did sell both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS at launch, so this should be no different.

Of course, you’ll also be able to buy the iPhone 4 directly at an Apple Store as well as any AT&T store as well. That’s a lot of options, and that’s not even taking into account that you’ll be able to pre-order the iPhone 4 starting on June 15th so that it is shipped directly to you, thus avoiding lines altogether.
