NYTE Shows Patterns of Communication Through Art
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Internet, Misc. Tech, Science,
Once again, science has crossed over into the area of art. MIT has teamed with AT&T to create New York Talk Exchange, which debuted this week at the Museum of Modern Art. The NYTE measures the volume of IP and telephony that goes in and out of the city anonymously. It then is portrayed visually at the museum as well as on the Internet. Globe Encounters displays NY’s connections to other cities globally. Pulse of the Planet shows how they alter during a 24 hour period with time zone changes. The third exhibit studies the five boroughs and how they vary.
Studying the data shows that New York tends to “reach out and touch” Asia and South America, whereas London concentrates on New York and Europe. They are hoping that it will help in studies overall in the area of globalization. The display will be active through May 12.

I’m going to go ahead and spoil part of the full story from after the break: there was no mention of Smash Bros. being online. Me = worried much.
Set your expectations low before you view the rest after the break.

Motorola Launches Waterproof Walkie Talkie
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech,
Motorola has recently unveiled its analog GP628 Plus walkie talkie in Korea with an IP67 (International Protection) rating, so that next time you are hanging around a war, you will not have to fear being told to stop using it. Both waterproof and dustproof, it also features a push-to-talk feature, an LED in case its battery is dying, and an emergency siren. Contact Motorola for price details. We’re wondering just how important this rating is considering some of our soldiers in the Middle East are wearing homemade body armor and using Silly String for bomb detection.
