Let the media frenzy begin! The 2010 Winter Olympics inched closer this week with the announcements of Team Canada and Team USA’s hockey rosters. John Tavares returns home
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, NHL,
The big-city boy returned home on Monday night. John Tavares, first-overall pick and first-line center of the New York Islanders led his team into Toronto for a game against the Maple Leafs – the same team that did “all they could” to acquire Tavares’ services after little John grew up in the Toronto suburbs admiring the Blue Buds. There was a massive media swarm focusing more on the return of the NHL star than the game itself; which is all that can be expected from these two sorry teams.

NHL Hall of Famer Jari Kurri is back in the NHL. Sort of. He is attending games in an attempt to evaluate the play of various Finnish skaters. As the general manager of Team Finland, he is responsible for putting together a winning unit to represent his country at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. While Kurri is one of the most successful hockey players of all-time, he certainly has his work cut out for him as GM.

Why the Left Hates Sarah Palin
Posted by Cynthia Guenthner Categories: Elections, Humor,
When John McCain chose Sarah Palin for his VP running mate, we conservatives cheered, “Fight fire with fire!” Little did we expect the left would show their true sexist colors and attack her as vehemently as they have. After all, doesn’t the left ostensibly cater to women? But Palin just doesn’t fit their stereotypes, and I’m offering 10 of the many reasons why they so detest her…

Is Hilary Duff Engaged?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Television, Engagements, Videos, Paparazzi Videos, Rumors,
Can you believe how quickly time has flown by? It seems just like yesterday that Hilary Duff and Joel Madden were still an item. Now, the Good Charlotte musician is celebrating parenthood with Nicole Richie. Meanwhile, Duff might have a bit of celebrating of her own to do.
Based on appearances Friday night, it looks like rumors about the pop star’s engagement might actually be true. Hilary, who was out with her Canadian hockey player beau, was spotted outside Il Sole with an interesting piece of bling on her ring finger.
When asked directly about a possible betrothal, the 20-year-old simply smiled while trying to dodge the photographers’ questions. (You can see that video after the jump.) Mike Comrie, 27, didn’t attempt to clear the matter up either.
All I can say is - thank God she (and Lindsay) both moved on from Aaron Carter. Does anyone even remember why those two even liked him to begin with?

Therma Blades Warm Up
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech, Science,
Some NHL players will become guinea pigs in November to test Therma Blade’s new heated skate blades. Inventor Tory Weber claims that the prototypes cut down on friction up to 50% and allow players to skate faster with less energy needed. There is a resistor in the blade that heats it by battery to 5º C (~41º F,) regulated by a microprocessor in the heel. Apparently the warmth thickens the film of water between the ice and the blade and acts as a lubricant. We don’t know much about the way skates work. We thought that perhaps there would be less chaos at the hockey rink if the players’ feet were warmer.
