Selena Gomez: I’d Have Two Kids by Now if I Stayed in Texas

Selena Gomez on 'Glamour'Singer-actress Selena Gomez has offered up what she believes her life would be like if she hadn't become a huge star and opened up about growing up with Disney.

In this month's issue of Glamour, the Spring Breakers actress claimed that she would have probably become a teen mom had she remained in Texas: "I'm terrified of what I would have become if I'd stayed there. I'm sure I'd have two children by now."

But that's not to say that she was exempt from the semblance of a high school experience:

"I grew up in one of the biggest high schools in the world, and that’s the Disney Channel. Everybody was falling in love with each other or not liking each other, and it was exhausting…and I was the shy one in the corner. And now I’m so opinionated, and I don’t have time for the cattiness. I have good people around me, and I’m glad I’m at the place I’m in. I wish I was there back then."

The Glamour issue hits newsstands on Tuesday, November 6.

Justin Bieber Graduates from High School

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Child Stars, Features,

Justin BieberJustin Bieber has graduated from high school.

The "Boyfriend" singer continued his studies away from a normal educational facility while touring the world, but is delighted to now be free of extra learning.

"I just finished high school. I passed my test - I'm free! It was hard doing school and work every day," he said.

Although Justin would have been happy to give up his education, his mother Patti preferred he stuck to it: "School was something my mom really wanted me to do, so I had to do it for her. I mean, this kind of lifestyle has given me a different perspective on life. I've been able to travel the world. At school, usually you have to do a lot of writing and reading. I'm really not into that stuff. I like to be out there!"

He would now not want to give up his career because of other people and does what he wants to, when he wants to. "Here's the thing, I'm my own person. I don't make my decisions based around what people are going to think of me. I make them based on what I want to do and who I think I want to be. If none of this was happening, if there were no cameras around me, that's the kind of person I'd want to be - a good person," he added.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Reality, American Idol, Gossip,

Fantasia, 24, won the third season of American Idol…but now, she’s going after an even bigger goal: a high school education.

“I’ve been talking about it for so long,” she said in a recent interview. Barrino dropped out of school in the ninth grade. “It’s something that I really need to do and that I want to do.”

The singer made headlines recently when she experienced financial trouble. But, Fantasia says she’s doing much better these days. “I had to sit back for awhile and had to get some things settled,” she explained.

Fantasia will be working on releasing an album (her third) as well as her education this year, and could potentially be starring on another reality show in short order. Lately, her production company has been searching for a network willing to take on a Fantasia-oriented series.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Review

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Kids, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, Editorial,

Amy

The compelling promos, tons of press and Seventh Heaven association might have been enough to rope me into watching the premiere of ABC Family’s , but it was the mere presence of Molly Ringwald in the cast which sealed the deal. And so it was that last night during prime time, I found myself watching cable instead of network TV. I don’t think it was a mistake.

Rollicking pop music kicked off the top of the episode, which immediately plunged its viewers headlong into teen pregnancy. Seriously, the main character Amy (played by Shailene Woodley) was barely introduced (as a marching band member) before she was in the restroom staring at the positive results from a home pregnancy kit. No time wasted here on introductions.

Actually, it felt more than a little forced. The audience was given no time to connect with this character in any way before BAM! she’s knocked up. And then, the beginning credits rolled.

Disney to Get Serious Musical Competition: How Spectacular

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, Gossip,

Tammin Sursok can’t control the market on teen/tween musical movies for much longer, not if kids-based Nickelodeon has anything to say about it.

Spectacular, a new musical comedy set in high school, will begin shooting on April 21 - move over, . Newcomers Tammin Sursok, Nolan Funk, and Simon Curtis will star in the film, along with Zoey 101’s Victoria Justice. The film will focus on the school choir and one preppy, pretty female student in particular. A new rock-n-roller joins the group, however unwittingly, and soon enough musical romance is borne between them. Sounds a little familiar…but I can’t quite recall which musical movie plot this might be similar to. Hmmm.

Nick’s high school musical movie is not the classic, cookie-cutter musical film. The numbers in this flick are performance-based rather than random singing insertions. Think more Dreamgirls and less My Fair Lady. Right now, the Viacom-owned network isn’t planning on any sequels - though there are contractual options open for just such an occurrence.

90210 May Produce Spinoff

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, The CW, Gossip,

90210With now off the air, we can finally get back to the high school series that kind of started it all: Beverly Hills, 90210.

The FOX show that wrapped up almost eight years ago may have a chance to live on as a contemporary spinoff on CW.  If a pilot - developed by Veronica Mars’ Rob Thomas - is picked up, the new program would find a home on the same network as its New York-based counterpart, .

It is not known how the new cast of players will relate to the alumnae of Beverly Hills High.  It’s also not clear whether veterans will somehow be involved.  But should we see appearances from Ian Ziering and Gabrielle Carteris, it wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world.  Fans of Degrassi already know how characters can stick around for generations to come.

Decisions on a possible pilot will be made by the end of the month.

Microsoft School of The Future Opens In Philly

Posted by Brian Viele Categories: Corporate News, Microsoft,

Classroom at MS-HSThe city of Philadelphia fronted $63 million to have Microsoft design a school in a west-philly working district back in 2003. Well, after 3 years, Microsoft’s “School of the Future” opened it’s doors for the first time to 170 teens from the area.  The students were chosen from a lottery, and now enjoy learning with laptops and school wide wireless internet.  Each student has a “smart card” which they use to access their lockers, track attendance and even monitor their caloric intake. The students aren’t the only one’s with new gadgets either.  The teachers have new “Smart Boards” allowing the teachers to write, zoom in and out, and even link to the internet.

But the school isn’t just gadgets and gizmos for the students and faculty, it also incorporates a whole new learning process.  This new process is derived directly from Microsoft’s management techniques.  Students are called “learners” and teacher’s “educators.”  There’s no longer a library, but an “interactive learning center.”  There are all sorts of ideas employed here that both remove stress from the “educators” while still looking out for the “learner’s” best interests. Using software to track students’ progress and automatically assigning them help if necessary as well as incorporating current events and real-world data automatically into lessons are just a few of the ways MS new program can help.  It truly does help to bring to life the philosophy or the school’s principal Grover that “Learning is not just going to school.”
