Hayden Panettiere Won’t Return for ‘Heroes: Reborn’

Hayden PanettiereHayden Panettiere was "shocked" to find out about the new Heroes series.

The 24-year-old actress - who played teen cheerleader Claire Bennet from 2006-2010 in the original show - has not been asked to join the recently-announced miniseries Heroes: Reborn and only found out about the project from a family member.

"It was a shock to me. In fact, I believe I became privy to that through my cousin. She sent me a text message and told me about it. I mean, we had nothing, nothing to do with it. It will definitely be interesting to see how they reinvent that."

The Nashville actress - who is engaged to boxer Wladimir Klitschko - has mixed feelings about the new show, and hopes not to see anyone taking over the role of Claire: "It's a little bit of an interesting feeling because you go, 'That was our show, our home, our family,' something that we had a major part in creating. I mean, I hope that they don't have somebody else playing our characters, hat would be a little dagger in the heart. But, you never know. I wish them success in it, for sure."

Snoop Dogg Appears on Willie Nelson Album

Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg appears on Willie Nelson's new album, Heroes. The rapper teamed with the country singer for the track "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die," which also features Kris Kristofferson and Jamey Johnson.

Although the pairing may seem unlikely, it is not the first time they have worked together, with Willie guesting on the track "Superman" from Snoop's last album Doggumentary. "I fell in love with his music as a kid. Willie's got long hair with braids, he likes to do the herbal essence. So it was natural for me and him to come together," Snoop said, speaking of how their collaboration came about.

Zachary Quinto Disappointed by Heroes Movie Fate

Zachary Quinto

Although he has a bright future ahead of him in the Star Trek movie franchise, is disappointed about one movie won’t be able to make.

Quinto, who rose to fame as Sylar in NBC’s former hit Heroes, admits he’s disappointed the series won’t be allowed one final chapter.

“It’s disappointing that there was such a lack of resolution,” Zachary told EW. “But unfortunately that’s just the nature of network television….Nothing really surprises me in terms of network and studio bureaucracy. It’s the way it goes.

“If it was in their best interest I’m sure they would have done it. And for whatever reason, they didn’t think it was. So that’s a bummer. But we have to just accept it and move on,” Quinto said.

No Final Movie for Heroes

Heroes' Zachary QuintoI guess Hayden Panettiere won’t need to grow out her hair anytime soon.

According to a source, a movie that could have given Heroes fans closure won’t be happening after all. The project had been considered a possibility when the show was canceled after Season 4.

Earlier this summer, Tim Kring spoke to EW about the movie’s status.

“No decision has been made,” the show’s creator said. “But the Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise ... We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters.”

NBC has not yet confirmed the cancellation report.

The Cape Trailer Premieres, Disappoints

The CapeNBC’s replacement, The Cape, recently premiered its full-length trailer. While I may not have agreed with where Heroes ended up, at least its initial premise beat this one’s: good cop gets framed and is left for dead; guy is found by a clandestine group who trains him to be a superhero; superhero fights crime.

One might say that it’s to be expected, it’s a superhero series. True, but isn’t that what we have comic books for? In our current world of theorists and Fringe fanatics, it’s easy to see that viewers want more complex stories with quickly (but slowly) unearthed mythologies. While I can’t say much considering it’s just the trailer (which you can view after the jump), all I’m saying is that the trailer isn’t selling me, and I’m thinking that this alone may be better than the pilot.

Will I watch it? Of course—what else will be left with all these cancellations lately?

And as much as I love her, and as much as I hate saying this… I’m willing to bet that will be out of a job (again) by the end of the year.

Summer Glau Nabs Superhero Show

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Television,

Summer Glau as Bennett in DollhouseAfter her short-lived gigs on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and ‘s shows Firefly and Dollhouse, Summer Glau landed another role in a sci-fi, superhero-themed series The Cape.

The pilot centers on a former cop, played by David Lyons, who dons a superhero alter ego to clear his name of criminal charges. Glau portrays “Orwell, a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys.” So… ‘s Bennett meets Kick-Ass‘s Hit Girl?

Considering all three Fox shows she worked on were cut short, let’s hope that moving to NBC will fare better for the actress.

Is this the nail in the coffin? Bah, I’ll still watch it if I can catch Glau being her adorable, geeky-cute self!
