Ridley Scott to Direct Film Version of Monopoly

MonopolyIf you’ve found yourself needing to enjoy Monopoly in one more possible form, you’re in luck. An adaptation of the classic game is now being prepared for the big screen, nearly 25 years after the same was done for Clue. (Yes, it was that long ago.)

And while some may choose to write this project off completely - I mean, the game only has like one character - there could be reason to take note. A few high-profile names have already been attached to the Hasbro-Universal collaboration. Ridley Scott, the same man behind Gladiator and , will be co-producing and directing the film. (He reportedly would like to give the film a “futuristic sheen” like he did with 1982’s Blade Runner.) Meanwhile, Pamela Pettler, the woman who penned Corpse Bride and Monster House, is in charge of the script.

Other games that could eventually end up in theaters include Ouija Board and Battleship.

If you cannot decide between the Light and the Dark Side, you can play Obi Wan one day and Darth Vader the next with the Star Wars Force Unleashed Lightsaber. The Hasbro gadget switches colors from Jedi green to Sith red and spikes come out to show your true intentions. The weapon also features activation hums and battle-like sound effects to complete the effect. The force can be with you sometime in May for about £25 (~$50.00.)

Hasbro Introduces Switch Shot for Wii

Switch Shot EX-3Hasbro was present at the NY Toy Fair this week, displaying its new Nerf toys. Included in the line is their Switch Shot EX-3. The device not only works as a Wii Shooter gun, it doubles as a dart blaster with a module that inserts into its remote slot. You can stow two darts in the lower half of the barrel, which also keeps an N-Strike accessory rail. Arriving in the 3rd Quarter of 2008, you will be able to get a Switch Shot for ~$15.00 or purchase one packed with the upcoming N-Strike game for Nintendo DS (no price determined thus far.)

Cast Set for ‘G.I. Joe’

Channing TatumLast year, Neil Estep and I addressed the upcoming movie on an episode of FilmCrunch.  Months later, we now know the names beefing up for this live-action adaptation.

It’s been announced that will be assuming the role of General Hawk while (Step Up) will be putting on Duke Hauser’s fatigues.  These two actors will join an already long list of players.  Others confirmed for the futuristic war movie include as Ripcord, (Factory Girl), (The Lookout), (Lost), (The Kite Runner) and (Alias).

The feature - based on the childhood action figure - is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 7, 2009.  The movie will be co-produced by , the same man behind the other Hasbro-related film, .
