Rockers Helped Launch Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

In honor of Activision’s launch of “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” last Friday, the band made a personal appearance at Times Square in NYC. After the press conference was held, the Hard Rock Cafe housed a game lounge where fans could try before they bought the game. While we know that Activision will sell a ton of them, it remains to be seen what effect the old rockers and their album sales will have on a younger generation.

If you are more of the Guitar Hero type than a Virtual Village fanatic then make plans Saturday, June 14 to cram into your nearest Toys R Us with about a gazillion other Nintendo DS owners to witness the preview of the new version of the game, “On Tour.” Between 12:00 and 4:00 p.m., the sneak preview is supposed to include hands on testing before its release June 22. Pre-order and get a “Limited Edition” pick/stylus throne in. We figure, unless you are a really big guy, you have better settle for the sticker, dog tag, and temp tattoo to prove you got in the door.

In case you didn’t see them last night, check out the American Idol finalists tapping into their inner Guitar Hero.

While I’m admittedly in the David Cook camp, the David Archuleta commercial felt quite awkward and wrong. Is it just me, or does his couch moment look like a bratty kid who just came in second?

Aerosmith tracks exclusive to Guitar Hero, not hitting Rock Band

Looks like artist music is going to start becoming exclusive to specific brands, as it has been made public through Activision PR that all Aerosmith tracks are going to be exclusive to Guitar Hero. What this means is that, no matter how good the Rock Band Store gets (and it is very good), you will never see any more Aerosmith tracks appearing in that franchise. Sure, Rock Band owners do get one Aerosmith track, that being “Train Kept a Rollin,” but seriously, that is just a drop in the bucket.

What we are wondering is, as these music/rhythm-based games continue to flourish, how many other artists are going to sign on for the exclusive? What do you guys think?

USB Virtual Maestro Tours

Conductor When everyone else is playing Guitar Hero, are you the type that secretly wants to lead an orchestra? Then the USB Virtual Maestro is for you. Designed to get kids interested in music, Teresa Nakra and her team of programmers with Immersion Music came up with software that will speed up or slow down the orchestra with the use of a Nintendo Wii remote. The project includes a free-standing wall, a speaker, and a 42-inch plasma screen displaying the music makers.

Two of the games have been on tour around the States since November and there is a chance that it will hit Europe this summer. We are thinking that if they get enough support, the team will try to come up with one for consumer use.

CES 2008: Guitaraoke Makes You A Hero

Kiss Guitaraoke Peavey Electronics arrived at the CES wih their AG RiffMaster Pro “Guitaraoke” System for Playstation 2. Its name pretty much tells it all. With a speaker system included, it was designed to “improve the experience of guitar-based music videogame tournaments in bars and nightclubs.” Honest. We wouldn’t just make that stuff up. The device comes with a fully functional PA System and a gaming console sits on top. Also included are mic and two controllers. If you don’t want to be too ostentatious and stay home, a smaller system is available. Seventeen different designs are there for you to choose from with a Limited Edition price of $399.99.

GH Controller is Encased in Legos

Lego GH Guitar This Guitar Hero controller for Playstation 2 made out of Legos is not only very kewl looking, it is actually functional. Created by David McNeely (aka Blue Star Legos,) it is the third guitar he has made and is modeled after a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz 4-string bass. Its innards come out of a standard GH guitar and the strum bar was made out of Technic parts. It took four days to make and we just hope he had sense enough to add some heavy-duty glue to the instrument, in case he gets carried away. You can see all the details on his Flickr page.

Canadian Sells Son’s Guitar Hero in Protest of the Evil Weed

Poor Isaac. His dad caught him smoking pot in his backyard with a couple of buds and decided to punish him by selling his Guitar Hero III on eBay. The Canadian father went into detail about the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the Wii game in the first place and offered to be talked out of it, but apparently the thought of the $9,100.01 bid was too much of a temptation and turned him into a Scrooge. We are not quite sure which one was the naughtier of the two.

Harmonix Brings Guitar Hero to iPod, Sorta

Those of you lurking around the iTMS Games section may have noticed a recent addition for a Guitar Hero-esque iPod game named Phase: Your Music is the Game. The nice thing, though, is that this game isn’t just a rip-off of the GH formula, but a clever new game designed by the folks at Harmonix (and thus released by MTV/Viacom). One really cool feature of the game, as well, is that the rhythm action takes place to music you have stored on your iPod. Get it? Your music IS the game.

Phase is currently on sale for $4.99 at the iTunes Music Store.
