Weekend Reading: Disney, Star Wars, James Bond and MAD
Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Movies, Reviews
Whoa.
To everyone in the Eastern US affected by Frankenstorm Sandy, my heart goes out to you. Stay safe and I hope normalcy returns as soon as possible. (And don’t forget to vote!)
Show business knew how to take away the game ball from Sandy coverage with the announcement that George Lucas was selling Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion (with a ‘b’). That’s just mind-boggling.
And with that news came the news that new Star Wars films will be forthcoming with Lucas not involved in their production. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Lucas announced his charitable intentions with the $4 billion. What a week. Marvel and DC will have to stage a double-secret-reboot just to get a little press.
Let’s see what else is going on:

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Movies

We know a ton of Star Wars fans have been waiting for confirmation of when the series would be available for purchase on Blu-ray, and we finally have a date that's set in stone. You'll be able to pick up Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Star Wars: Original Trilogy, and Star Wars: Prequel Trilogy on September 16, 2011. In an interesting move, this is a Friday. Movie releases tend to fall on Tuesdays, but we're guessing that there are people hardcore enough to camp out for this thing and take time off work to tear through it, so having the weekend to do so is an added bonus.
You can pre-order the Star Wars Blu-ray set from Amazon at a significant discount:

In a Limited Edition of 600 each, they come in Mickey as Anakin Skywalker, Minnie as Queen Amidala, Goofy as Jar Jar Binks, and Donald as Darth Maul. Each are numbered and will be available this fall at Disney World and Disneyland, although if you just can’t wait, you can pre-order and pay extra for shipping. You really must be a collector as each retails for $200.00, not a small price to pay for the mice, duck, and dog.

Pentagon Gets OK to Play Space Invaders
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Editorial, Science, Transportation
Prez. G.W. Bush has allowed the Pentagon permission to use a Navy Standard Missile 3 to “intercept” the broken 5,000 lb. U.S. spy Satellite 193 and save us from its bulk as well as its toxic hydrazine fuel. Expected to otherwise arrive on Earth during the first week in March, there was no specific time given, but the “window” should open in the next week or so. This is the first time an attempt of this kind has been made and the missile’s software has been updated to give it a better chance of reaching its target. We wonder if another satellite will be on hand to film the event. George Lucas could certainly use it in his next Star Wars Episode.
