George Lucas Engaged to Llongterm Girlfriend

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Engagements,

George Lucas and Mellody HobsonGeorge Lucas is engaged. The Star Wars creator recently popped the question to 43-year-old Mellody Hobson, after dating for seven years and his daughter Amanda took to Twitter to share her joy with the news.

Posting a link to an article about the engagement on the Huffington Post, she tweeted, "George Lucas, Mellody Hobson Engaged: 'Star Wars' Director, Businesswoman Set To Marry ....Congratulations Dad & Mellody!:) (sic)."

This will be the first marriage for Mellody, who is the president of Chicago-based investment management firm, Ariel Investments LLC and the second for George, whose union with Marcia Lucas lasted from 1969 to 1983.

Last year, George made the decision to sell Lucasfilm to Disney because he felt it was time to retire from the day-to-day running of the company and wants the Star Wars franchise - which comprises of six movies and spin-off cartoons - to continue after his death. "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime," he said in a statement.

Star Wars: Darth Vader And The Ghost PrisonWhoa.

To everyone in the Eastern US affected by Frankenstorm Sandy, my heart goes out to you. Stay safe and I hope normalcy returns as soon as possible. (And don’t forget to vote!)

Show business knew how to take away the game ball from Sandy coverage with the announcement that George Lucas was selling Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion (with a ‘b’). That’s just mind-boggling.

And with that news came the news that new Star Wars films will be forthcoming with Lucas not involved in their production. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Lucas announced his charitable intentions with the $4 billion. What a week. Marvel and DC will have to stage a double-secret-reboot just to get a little press.

Let’s see what else is going on:

George Lucas is Retiring

George LucasGeorge Lucas is still planning to retire.

The Star Wars director is hoping to give up on Hollywood and make small scale movies at home for his own enjoyment.

"I'm moving away from the company, I'm moving away from all my businesses, I'm finishing all my obligations and I'm going to retire to my garage with my saw and hammer and build hobby movies. I've always wanted to make movies that were more experimental in nature, and not have to worry about them showing in movie theaters," he told Esquire.

George, 68, has made similar claims in January, and previously in 2005, when the final Star Wars film to date, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith was released. While many take the director's words with a pinch of salt - as he is widely expected to keep working as a producer on Hollywood films, including a possible new Indiana Jones movie - it is unlikely he will make any new Star Wars films, possibly after criticism he received over the three films in the franchise he made between 1999 and 2005 and his re-tweaking of elements in the original movies, shot in the 70s and 80s.

"Why would I make any more? When everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" he said at the time.

The screen legend, who has played the titular adventuring archaeologist in the four previous films in the franchise, said he is keen to make a fifth film, and creator is already working on ideas.

Harrison, who also starred in the original trilogy, said, “I’d love to do it. George Lucas is working on an idea and if he can come up with something, Steven Spielberg and I have to agree to go ahead with it. If we find another story to do and we develop the character a little further and I get a chance to do another one, I’d be happy as pie to do it. I don’t think there’s any other franchise films that I’d want to go back to.”
