The HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 aims to change the face of the business laptop. As you'll see in this episode of Unboxing Live, the Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 looks much more like a premium consumer-grade notebook as opposed to the typically more boring business models. It's super-thin and light at 3.3 pounds, and even has an SSD for quick read and write data. Check out the video for the full rundown. You can pick up your own HP EliteBook 1040 G1 here.
We are going #DigitallyDark, giving up our smartphones for a full 24 hours as part of the challenge thrown down by Absolute LoJack.
We talk about our thoughts on having a smartphone or laptop stolen, and talk about the #DigitallyDark challenge, which you can join us in doing!
The fact of the matter is that smartphone and laptop theft are running rampant, and once your device is gone, it's near impossible to get it back. Even the built-in tools can be circumvented. Absolute LoJack takes device recovery to the next level. They'll locate, lock, delete, and even guarantee recovery of your Mac, PC, or Android device. You can get 30% off of Absolute LoJack until 6/30 with promo code: DARK30.
We bring you a look at the LG G Flex smartphone in this episode of Unboxing Live. The device sports the obvious gorgeous, curved OLED 720p display, which is actually flexible to 180 degrees and also features self-healing material on the rear casing. For real. Other specs include the inclusion of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera. We open it up, and show you what's included with the G Flex, and give you a full walkthrough of the device.
In this episode of Bleeding Edge TV, I show you how to set up the Nest Protect. The easiest way to getthe smart connected smoke + carbon monoxide detector from Nest ready for installation is using the iPhone or Android smartphone apps that the company provides. Using the Nest app, you set up the Nest Protect on your Wi-Fi network, test its functions prior to installation, get familiar with its features, and then move on to installation (which will be in our next video.) If you have any questions about the setup process, let us know over on our Patreon page.
Don't forget to check out our Nest Protect unboxing as well!
In this episode I bring you a first-look at the new LEGO Fairground Mixer set. Part of the LEGO Creator series, the Fairground Mixer 10244 includes the Mixer ride, ticket booth, working dunk tank, test of strength area, 12 minifigures (including new throwing up minifig!), and two trucks that carry everything around. A hand crank makes the Mixer turn, or you can attach an automatic motor. This set was revealed at the Sydney Brickshow, and includes 1,746 individual pieces, so it'll take you a little while to get it all put together (it's rated at expert level, after all!) When all is said and done, though, you'll be left with a great-looking, usable carnival scene with working attractions. We give you a look at how it all works in this episode.
In this episode I give you a comparison review of the HTC One (M8) vs. the original HTC One. Last year, I named the HTC One as my favorite Android smartphone, and this year the HTC One M8 has a great chance at claiming the title again. We've received a bunch of questions from readers asking about the differences between the two devices, and if it is worth upgrading from the 2013 model to the new HTC One M8.
I go through each major change and upgrade (and, in one case, a downgrade) to give you a thorough look at what's new and what's changed!

In this episode we open up the Nest Protect. Nest Protect is a smoke & carbon monoxide detector from the makers of the Nest Smart Thermostat. It will let you know in plain English that there is a problem in the home, and will also tell you which room it's in. False alarms are easily silenced with a wave. If you have multiple Protect units in your home, they will talk to each other, and they'll even use motion sensor data to alert the Nest Thermostat that there is someone home, so that it knows to keep the temperature to where you like it to be.
We will follow-up with a setup video, and an installation video of the Nest Protect as well, following this unboxing!
The Drobo 5N is the latest network-attached storage device from the folks at Data Robotics. We are big Drobo fans at Gear Live, and we decided to move from the previous Drobo NAS, the Drobo FS, over to the newer Drobo 5N.
The 5N has 5 drive bays, allowing you to choose single or dual drive failure modes. This means that you can have either one or two drives completely fail, and still keep all of the data that is stored on the Drobo.
We open it up and give you a look. If you like wha tyou see, you can pick up your own Drobo 5N.
