Virgin Mobile Helio Ocean 2 Smartphone

Virgin Mobile has announced that their Helio Ocean 2 will launch on February 12. This model is slimmer than the first generation but still has the dual-sliding design. Aside from the QWERTY keyboard, the phone features a 2.6-inch TFT display (240x320,) 3G connectivity, GPS with Google maps, stereo Bluetooth, a media player with background mode playback and access to social networking sites. It will also have 3D gaming, a file viewer with editing and a 2MP camera. A 512MB MicroSD card is included in the $149.00 price.

Oddage Puzzle Word Game

Oddage If you just can’t pass up a good word game, Danilo Campos’ Oddage is the one for you. With this app you need to pick out the word that doesn’t belong with the other ones. Categories include periodic table elements, county names, spices, Greek gods and trees. There are a total of 900 words in 50 categories, and each game lasts between 60 to 90 seconds. The download is $2.99. We guess this is a perfect application while waiting for the ATM or the idiot in front of you that has more than 10 items in the express lane.

Belco Alpha 400 Netbook

Alpha 400 Netbook Belco is the latest company to unveil their netbook, the full-flash Alpha 400. It certainly is basic with its 7-inch display, 128MB RAM, 1GB internal memory, a 400MHz MIPS processor, a 10/100 MB Ethernet interface, and WiFi connectivity. It also has a SDHC memory card slot for another 32GB of storage and runs on Linux. Let’s not forget it works as an e-book, MP3 and game player and has installed business software. You can get the netbook for way-cheap. Try $169.95.

TapDefense: Free (and fantastic) tower defense game

There are a few tower defense games available in the App Store, but we think we’ve come across the best in TapDefense. Aside from being a free game, it’s really well done. The gameplay progresses in difficulty just as you’d expect it to, and developer LL Group even worked in the iPhone accelerometer into the gameplay - not something you find in your typical tower defense game. One of the towers available is an earthquake tower, and when enemies approach it, you shake your iPhone or iPod touch in order to destroy them. Very nice. In all, you’ve got 42 levels, six tower types, and seven different enemies to combat. And like we said, it’s free.

Holiday Gift Guide 2008: Hasbro Lazer Tag Multiplayer Battle System

Hasbro Lazer Tag System Here’s the cool thing about Hasbro’s Lazer Tag Multiplayer Battle System - you can play and shoot each other in a group, running around as you normally would during a game of Laser Tag, which is always fun - or you can go it along with the television attachment, which turns the system into a one-player video game where you shoot the bad guys on the TV. The set includes the TV attachment, two tag guns, and two pump-action shot blast attachments. When your hit, a rumble pack makes it obvious, you’ve got a manual reload button to refill your shots after every ten that you fire, and a shield button. The set retails for $79.99, but we found it for 13% less on Amazon, at $69.96.

Pass the Pigs iPhone game

I’ve always been one who enjoys a good game of Pass the Pigs, and I just gained the knowledge that the game is available in the App Store. It’s basically a dice game that uses pigs rather than, you know, actual dice. Depending on how the pigs land, you gain points, lose points, etc. The is put out by THQ, which likely explains why there is also a one-player Story Mode as well. In any event, Pass the Pigs can be found in the App Store for $2.99.

Zune 3.1 update: More games, better Social, more

Just two months after the Zune 3.0 release, Microsoft is now deploying the next incremental update to their Zune platform with Zune 3.1. Available for download today, the Zune 3.1 update brings quite a few welcome feature changes and updates:

New Games: Checkers, Sudoku, and Space Battle
New multiplayer mode, and single-player difficulty levels, for Texas Hold’em
Visual changes to the Zune Social, making it prettier and easier to navigate
Like-Minder Listeners feature added to social, allowing you to compare your music tastes to others
Improved play count reporting, content synchronization, and other bug fixes in both the hardware and software

You can grab the update now by launching your Zune software, going into Settings, and hitting Check for Updates.

Bleeding Edge TV 296: New Xbox Experience definitive walkthrough video

We know a lot of you Xbox 360 owners are counting down the days to November 19th, which is the day that everyone will be able to download the New Xbox Experience dashboard update. Until then, we figured we’d give you a nice, full walkthrough of the update and its interface. Our friends up in Redmond were able to send the update to one of our two Xbox 360 consoles, which in turn, allows us to bring you this exclusive first-look walkthrough.

We show you everything, from the boot-up video, the new HDTV display output options, Xbox avatars, Netflix, and a whole lot more. Our early thoughts? We love it. In fact, we love it so much, that we now hate our second Xbox 360, which still has the old, busted blade interface. We want NXE on that one as well.

One thing we mentioned in the video that we need to clarify, though. As it turns out, Netflix HD streaming should be available on other Netflix-enabled hardware devices on November 19th as well, as opposed to HD streaming being exclusive to the Xbox 360 at first.

Hey It's Free logo We just had to share this site that we recently heard about. In a world of expensive electronics, there are actually some that you can get for free. Hey, It’s Free is a daily listing of all things that require no money to acquire. There are music and e-book downloads, links to old NES games online, free text messaging sites and even USB flash drives. While many of them expire rather quickly, it’s worth taking a look at the site as Goob and staff make sure that each of the items are checked out before posting. They also feature clothing, coupons, food, and many other freebies.

Hole in the Wall Preview

Were you one of the millions entertained this summer by Wipeout‘s Big Balls? Well, then this might be the show for you.

Next month, FOX will introduce Hole in the Wall, its contribution to the reality humiliation genre. Although the program’s concept could tire quickly (like The Moment of Truth‘s), it’s appears to be a fun counterprogramming option for those in need of a mindless chuckle.

Hole in the Wall has special previews on September 7th and 9th. It will then regularly air @ 8pm on Thursdays starting September 11.
