HP EliteBook Folio 1020 in-hand

HP has announced its new super-thin notebook in the EliteBook Folio 1020. Powered by Intel's new Core M processor (which is going to lead to a bunch of thin laptops being released in the future,) the EliteBook Folio 1020 weighs in at as little as 2.2 pounds and is 15.7mm thin, depending on which model you decide to pick up. The regular model actually weighs 2.6 pounds with a 12.5-inch 1080p display and can be specced with a touchscreen display. The special edition model weighs 2.2 pounds with a body forged our of carbon fiber and magnesium-lithium allow, and sports a 12.5-inch quad HD display (no touchscreen.) Both have 8GB SAM, a 128GB or 256GB SSD, and 9 hours of battery life.

You can pick up the standard edition starting in February, while the Special Edition will be available in April. Priving has yet to be revealed for either of the two models, but if I had to guess, both will likely cost more than the MacBook Air that they look to compete with on size and shape.

While the HP EliteBook Folio won't be available for a couple of months, we were able to get one in here at Gear Live in order to bring you an advanced preview of the hardware. Check it out in our HP EliteBook Folio 1020 photo gallery.

A look at the T-Mobile Test Drive iPhone package [Hands-on]

T-Mobile Test Drive

As we reported a few days ago, T-Mobile has introduced Test Drive, which allows both current T-Mobile customers and those in other carriers (or who have no cell provider at all) to borrow an iPhone 5s from the company for 7 days. That includes unlimited talk, text, and data with the only current T-Mobile device that supports all the wireless band's used by the company. It's an effort to show, not just tell, the US population that it's greatly improved its wireless network and tuned it for massive data use.

After the T-Mobile Uncarrier 5.0 event we were able to get our hands on one of the iPhone 5s Test Drive units, and we've included some images here. Inside the box is what we assume is a refurbished black iPhone 5s, along with a sealed Lightning cable, Earpods, and AC adapter. It's definitely not the Apple unboxing experience, but that isn't the point. As far as storage capacity, our iPhone 5s is a 32GB model, so there is room to try downloading apps, videos, and images.

iPhone 5s silver in-hand

The white and silver iPhone 5s is the only model that maintains a color that was introduced with the iPhone 5, with the other two colors (gold and space gray) being brand new for this model year. Our iPhone 5s review is now live, but if you're interested in seeing the silver 5s up close, we've gathered a bunch of images of the silver iPhone 5 body for your perusal in our iPhone 5s Silver gallery. Be sure to also check out our iPhone 5s Space Gray gallery as well.

iPhone 5s Space Gray Apple logo

The space gray iPhone 5s replaces the black & slates iPhone 5 color that Apple released in 2012. Some users complained about how easy it was for the slate anodization to peel, wear, or chip off of the aluminum, so Apple made the call to go with the gunmetal gray hue, which is easier to anodize, and should result in far less complaints. Our iPhone 5s review just went live, but if you want a look at some images the gray iPhone 5s body for your perusal, they're in our iPhone 5s Space Gray gallery. Be sure to also check out our iPhone 5s Silver gallery while you're at it.

iPhone 5s rear: Silver vs. Space Gray

You've likely seen and heard all about the gold iPhone 5s. It's all the rage. But hey--there are two other great colors available as well! In fact, we think that the silver and space gray versions are far superior to the champagne bore, so we've given both colors the spotlight here, putting them head-to-head. The space gray iPhone 5s replaces the black & slate iPhone 5 color that Apple released in 2012, while the silver color is the same as the one found on the white & silver iPhone 5 from a year ago. Check them both out in our iPhone 5s Space Gray vs. Silver gallery. Be sure to also check out our iPhone 5s Silver gallery and iPhone 5s Space Gray gallery, and then pop over and read our iPhone 5s review!

Opening the iPhone 5c

We're putting the finishing touches on our iPhone 5c review, and in the meantime, we've put together a large gallery of images showcasing Apple's new lower-cost smartphone. The iPhone 5c is everything you liked about the iPhone 5, but ditches the aluminum enclosure for a more colorful plastic outer shell. The device is available in five colors (white, green, blue, pink, and yellow,) and has a slightly improved battery, and an improved FaceTime camera on the front, but other than that, it's an iPhone 5 through-and-through, but $100 cheaper than it used to be. Head on over to our iPhone 5c unboxing gallery to check out the device in some up-close-and-personal images.

You can pick up the iPhone 5c starting at $99 now from the Apple Store.

Nokia Lumia 1020 PureView viewfinder

The Nokia Lumia 1020 boasts a ridiculously large 41-megapixel PureView camera as the standout feature. It's "the largest back side illuminated sensor available on a smartphone." A smartphone needs more than just a great camera though, and Nokia has outfitted the Lumia 1020 with a 4.5-inch 1280 x 768 AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display covered by Gorilla Glass 3, and it sports "super sensitive touch" which allows you to use the phone even while wearing gloves.

The Lumia 1020 includes a wrist strap that you can optionally attach to it, and Nokia will also be selling a Camera Grip that makes the device easier to use as a camera. We're finalizing our Lumia 1020 review, but in the meantime, we've put together our Nokia Lumia 1020 unboxing gallery for you to get up-close and personal with the Windows Phone through pictures.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Gear Live

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the talk of the town as it pertains to Android smartphones at the moment (though one could argue that the HTC One deserves just as much attention.) Samsung's new flagship sports a 5-inch 1080p display, LTE connectivity, and a bunch of those nature sounds to make it more calming (or something.) While we are working on our full Galaxy S4 review, we put together a photo gallery showing off the device itself, along with the included accessories. Go ahead and check out our Samsung Galaxy S4 unboxing gallery for all the goodness, and stay tunes for the review.
