LG G4 hands-on first impressions

LG G4 review

When looking at the overall landscape of smartphones in the US, most casual conversation is dominated by talk of Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S—currently that means the iPhone 6 and the Galaxy S6. The thing is, though, that there are other great phones out there that deserve to be a part of the conversation. Last year, my favorite Android phone was the LG G3, and I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on the successor ever since LG announced it.

As most know, I’m one of the rare people who owns multiple smartphones. I didn’t need the LG G4, but I definitely wanted it. LG sent one over, and I’ve been enjoying the process of learning all the ins and outs of the superb camera. If you’re unfamiliar, LG did a great job differentiating the camera on the G4. It’s got fantastic performance in low light situations thanks to the f/1.8 aperture, and sports a manual mode with 15 settings and over 135 options for configuring the camera to capture just the right shot. Pair that with the laser autofocus that gets things looking great in an instant, and the ability to capture RAW images and you have a winner. Super cool.

Comic Book Jobs: G4

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Reviews, Television, Video Games,

Olivia Munn Slave LeiaG4 is the nerd-media empire where Olivia Munn got her start on Attack Of The Show. (They're regular fixtures at Comic Con International in San Diego.)

Now G4 is looking for a Marketing Assistant.

It’s not a glamor position, so not a lot of opportunities to rock your bikini or Speedo on air.

Instead you’ll be setting up meetings, booking conference rooms, taking calls, filing and handling miscellaneous administrative tasks. There are lots of other similar responsibilities, but it all boils down to desk-and-computer work.

A college degree in communications is preferred, though related experience could replace it. And also “experience using the Internet, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, etc.” which would really be anyone under the age of 50 at this point, right?

But “excitement for videogame and tech and gadgets and comic books” would certainly count for a lot.

Good luck, job seekers!

The Hurt Locker

The Discovery Channel brought us while the History Channel introduced us to Ice Road Truckers. Now, G4 is planning to spotlight one of the most explosive jobs around.

Inspired by the Oscar-winning film , the cable channel has ordered a 10-episode series based on the “brave men and women who diffuse and dismantle explosives” on a daily basis.

Cameras will follow team members of a U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit as they train in the United States. The TV crew will letter be embedded with the platoon when they are deployed to Afghanistan.

Olivia Munn Says Suck It, Wonder Woman

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Television,

Olivia MunnGeek goddess and fanboy icon Olivia Munn is the host of G4’s Attack of the Show (for now it seems) and pops up now and again on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show as their Senior Espionage Correspondent (among others).

Now she’s letting her geek flag fly ever more proudly with her new book, a memoir entitled and on sale now: “Suck It, Wonder Woman.”

With Wonder Woman now in the news with a new costume and a new direction, the timing could not be better for a book with that title. Also, too, is right around the corner so comics will once again be in the nightly news cycle (if only so TV networks can run pictures of guys dressed like Stormtroopers and Klingons).

And, she’ll probably be there as well on behalf of G4. (I wonder if she has trouble booking a room?) And she’ll probably interviewing those same cosplayers. But at least she’ll have the sense of where they’re coming from, unlike, say, the manscaped fratboys who cosplay as journalists on TV.
