App.net introduces free accounts with an invitation system
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Revenue, Social Media, Social Networks, Startups,
App.net has decided to remove the cost of entry for some users, as it now allows those with paid accounts to invite up to three people to the service for free. If you're unfamiliar with App.net, it's a Twitter-like service that is free of advertising, instead allowing members to pay a $36 annual fee to be a part of it. Members own the data they put into it and don't need to give up any rights, and that includes the 10 GB cloud storage that tied to the App.net File API. Free users will have some limitation, though. For one, you'll only be able to follow a maximum of 40 other users, and instead of the aforementioned 10 GB of cloud storage, you get 500 MB instead. Lastly, paid accounts are allowed to upload files up to 100 MB in size, while free accounts have a 10 MB size restriction.
If you want to get in on App.net and don't feel like paying, hit up your paid user brethren and beg for an invite.

Alongside the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung announced that buyers will also get another nice incentive--50 GB of free space on Dropbox. Buyers will simply need to register their Galaxy S III, and we presume they also need to install the Dropbox Android app. From there, they'll receive 50 GB of Dropbox storage for two years. Definitely a nice bonus if you ask us.
Today I Die Again for iPhone available free today only

In conjunction with Free App A Day (FAAD), Atakamalabs has released the popular IndieCade Jury Award winning title rewrite, Today I Die Again by Daniel Benmergui, completely free. Today I Die Again is a thought provoking adventure using words as means to action.
The scene opens underwater with the body of a dead woman floating lifeless in the dark. The rock tied around her waist suggests that her demise was no accident. A poem floats above her: “hopeless world / full of shadows / today I die”
Players must use the floating glowing words or reveal hidden ones to help you transform the ever-present poem in order to progress through the game. All along the way you battle the dark creatures from the depths in effort to break through to the surface. The oddly creative music score sets the mood perfectly as you are immersed deeper into this pixelated world. Today I Die Again is truly a unique game unlike any other, exploring new ways to express emotions through a video game experience.
Today I Die Again is available free on the iTunes store for iPhone and iPod Touch.

Who knew Coke Zero would be in the forefront of gaming innovation? Last week, Coca-Cola released "the first ever location-based videogame" called LiveCycle.
LiveCyle is based on Disney's TRON: Legacy film and the premise of the game is to move around the real world real to create a Light Wall and derezz your opponents, and avoid being derezzed by theirs. The Coke Zero websites offers a trailer of the game which makes it seem like a pretty fun idea, though there is a lack of actually gameplay. Real gaming innovation or interactive advertising? You decide! Play the game and let us know in the comments!
Live Cycle is available in the iTunes stores for the low, low price of $0.00. Download it here.
Free Gmail calling extended through 2011
Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Google, Internet,
When Google introduced phone call capabilities in Gmail back in August, they promised that calls to the US and Canada would be free until the end of the year. Now, Google posted on their blog that they will be extending that period of free calling for another year, throughout 2011. They are doing it in the spirit of the Holidays, and hoping it will help people stay in touch in 2011. In case you haven't tried it yet, you can access the feature by turning Google Chat on in your Gmail account, on the left side of the screen, and then click on the "Call Phone" feature. From our experience, calls are not always as high quality as something like Skype, but you certainly can't beat the price.

Apple’s Find My iPhone is now free
Posted by Patrick Lambert Categories: Apple, Cameras, Handhelds,
In our opinion, the best reason to subscribe to MobileMe has been the Find My iPhone service, a feature that allows anyone to pinpoint on a map where their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad are located, in case they can't find them. You can also send a message to your device, play a sound, remote lock it, or even remote wipe. Today, in a surprising move, Apple decided to unbundle the service from MobileMe and offer it for free for the latest generation of iOS devices. So if you have an iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod Touch, or an iPad running iOS 4.2.1 or later, you're in!

Deal of the Day: 4-week free Blockbuster Online (Blu-ray and games included!)
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Home Entertainment, Hot Deals, Video Games,
We like today’s Deal of the Day because it doesn’t really get much better than free. Today you can get a 4-week free trial to Blockbuster Total Access, the company’s Netflix competitor. What’s cool about this offer is that Blockbuster typically only allows for a 2-week trial, so this one is twice as long. Even better? They are including Blu-ray and video game rentals in the trial as well. So basically you get a free month of DVD, Blu-ray, and video game (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3) rentals by mail, and you get to keep 3 discs out at a time.
