Brad Pitt Takes Charge of Wedding

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Weddings, Rumors,

Angelina Jolie and Brad PittBrad Pitt is taking charge of his wedding to Angelina Jolie. The Moneyball actor is set to wed the Oscar-winning actress - with whom he raises six children with - this summer at their home in the South of France, and he is getting involved in every aspect of the big day as he wants the nuptials to be perfect.

"Brad's been doing extensive renovation on the house and is using a specialist in chateau restoration. Brad's spent over $16 million already. Now he's offering hefty bonuses to workers to complete it by summer. He's even trying to organize an aeroplane landing site in the grounds for guests to come in by private jet - but that's proving rather tricky, what with permits and no-fly zones," a source said.

Brad wants all the food and drink for the reception to be locally produced and has been very involved with the menu. "Brad's been asking all the locals if they'll be able to source produce from the local area for the reception. It's certainly going to be a moment in local history. Brad's been tasting and looking up French dishes for weeks. He wants the perfect menu and, of course, the perfect wine to accompany it. That is all going to be locally sourced, too," the source added to Grazia.

Angouleme International Comics Festival

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Conventions,

AngoulemeI've never been to the Angouleme International Comics Festival, aka Festival International de la Bande Dessinée.

But I've always wanted to go. It's been going on every year since 1974 and it's the largest comics festival in Europe, taking place in Angouleme, France.

The latest one is going on right now, through the 29th and it's an all-out event that involves the whole town. The Forbidden Planet blog has more.

Here's a history of the festival which makes it sound even more appealing, and includes a quote that the show draws 200,000 people each year. That's a sweet number and makes it bigger than the San Diego's Comic Con International.

If you're in Angouleme, have a great time!

Paris grass sphere

When looking at this patch of lawn head on, it looks like a sphere just sitting in the middle of the plaza at Paris City Hall. But it isn't. Look at it from the side and you realize that it is just heavily designed grass at an angle. This was designed by Francois Abelanet. It covers 1500 square meters and took 90 gardeners five days to put together.

2010 Golden Globe Nominations (Film)

Up in the Air

The 2009-10 awards season kicked into high gear this morning with the official announcement of the nominations. The event - which will be hosted by funnyman Ricky Gervais - will take place just over two weeks before the Academy Award contenders are revealed.

Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of film nominees:

  • leads all film nominations with six. The musical Nine follows with five while Avatar and Inglourious Basterds tied with four.
  • As expected, Meryl Streep has received another two mentions—unfortunately, they are both in the Comedy category (Julie & Julia, It’s Complicated). On the surprising end, Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, The Proposal) and Matt Damon (Invictus, The Informant) both have two nominations as well—thankfully, in different categories.
  • Talk about drama! An ex-husband and wife will be competing against each other in the Best Director race. (Avatar‘s James Cameron and The Hurt Locker‘s Kathryn Bigelow.)
  • Despite backing from both Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey, is not a contender for Best Film. Mo’Nique and Gabourey Sidibe were both recognized for their excellent acting though.

The 67th Golden Globe Awards airs Jan. 17 on NBC.

Pay Phone Booth Becomes Aquarium

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Design, Misc. Tech,

Phone Booth AquariumPay phone booths are few and far between these days since we all have cellies. Artists Benoit Deseille and Benedetto Bufalino decided to turn one into a work of art as part of the recent Lyon Light Festival in France. This seems a great idea in terms of recycling, but the artists had more of a deeper theme in mind for their oversized fish tank. “We rediscover this glass cage transformed into an aquarium, full of exotically coloured fish; an invitation to escape and travel.”

Britney Spears Lip Syncs Her Way Through Europe

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, Performances, Pop,

Less than a week before her 27th birthday, Britney Spears gave international audiences a taste of what she has in store for 2009. Unfortunately, copycat ensembles and lip synced numbers aren’t probably what fans had in mind.

Last Thursday in Germany, the pop princess gave her very first “live” performance since the 2007 VMAs. And while her appearance on the 2008 Bambi Awards was far from disastrous - the physically-fit singer seemed a bit more confident - it still could have used slightly more oomph. And originality. Strangely enough, she opted to wear an outfit identical to the one Madonna has been sporting during her Sticky & Sweet tour. Britney also chose to keep her dance moves and live vocals to a minimum.
