Superheadz Retro Camera Blackbird, Fly
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cameras, Design,
Oddly enough, the Superheadz are releasing retro cameras. The Blackbird, fly has a twin lens arrangement and will make you feel at home at the next screening of “Magical Mystery Tour.” We understand that they only run about $100.00 each, meaning that you have to sacrifice auto-focus for looking cool. Even better than the name of the cam is the site of the Superheadz, so take a trip to the Magic Camera Tour 2008.

Don’t Swat This Fly

Shades of Jeff Goldblum! Engineer Robert Wood has been working on a robotic fly since the late 90’s. After studying houseflies, bees, and fruit flies, he and his team created a layered composite that bends when electricity hits it, creating a micro-scale gearbox hooked to the wings. While the mass of a fly’s wings was figured to be 80 watts per kilo, this design produced more than 400W.
The Department of Defense liked his idea so much that they funded him, hoping the technology will be used for such applications as lost miners and military spying. Wood claims that he is only a third of the way there, as the next steps are to create an “on-board” power source and then teach the little buggers to fly en masse.

This Week on HD DVD and Blu-ray: October 9, 2007

The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD rages on, but this week the battle looks particularly one-sided.
HD DVD has only one exclusive release this Tuesday (and not even a very good one), which can’t counter-balance the nine exclusive Blu-ray titles. Now, one could see this as merely a slow week for the format’s proponents—Universal has the one title, and Paramount has zilch—or maybe Fox, Sony and MGM have simply realized that the holidays are fast approaching, and that … well, this is a war! Whatever the case, HD DVD loyalists will find little to drool over this week. As for the Blu-ray fans, they’ll find three day-and-date releases plus a high-def 28 Days Later to supplement its impressive new-release sequel.
