2010 BAFTA Award Winners

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards,

The Hurt Locker

may be the overseas (and domestic) box office champ, but how would it fare with the international voters?

This weekend’s Orange British Academy Film Awards ceremony proved James Cameron’s movie might not be a shoe-in at next month’s Academy Awards. In fact, ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow could see her movie, , take the Best Film honor from him.

In total, the gritty war drama collected six statues including the first ever BAFTA for a female director. (Avatar and both took in two awards each.) Meanwhile, the top acting prizes went to two British stars: Colin Firth (A Single Man) and Carey Mulligan (An Education).

You can see a full list of winners after the jump.

Michael Fassbender Loves Leather Speedos

Michael Fassbender in 300

300 hunk Michael Fassbender likes wearing leather Speedos.

The Fish Tank actor, who dons a series of unusual outfits for his roles in forthcoming movies Jonah Hex and Centurion, refuses to limit himself to art house movies because he prefers the outfits he dons for big-budget films.

“I like doing both kinds of films. It doesn’t always have to be social commentary. Besides, I like running around in a leather Speedo.”

The actor also admits he is willing to tackle almost any film role if it feels right, and doesn’t worry about embarrassing himself in the process:

“I’ve been going on my gut pretty much from the beginning. I’m not always going to get it right, but risk interests me. There is some embarrassing element to everything I do in life. I used to beat myself up about it, but if you’re really going to learn and expand you’ve got to be open to doing things that perhaps don’t work out in the way you envisaged.”

Pay Phone Booth Becomes Aquarium

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cell Phones, Design, Misc. Tech,

Phone Booth AquariumPay phone booths are few and far between these days since we all have cellies. Artists Benoit Deseille and Benedetto Bufalino decided to turn one into a work of art as part of the recent Lyon Light Festival in France. This seems a great idea in terms of recycling, but the artists had more of a deeper theme in mind for their oversized fish tank. “We rediscover this glass cage transformed into an aquarium, full of exotically coloured fish; an invitation to escape and travel.”
