Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Utilities, App Updates, Apple, Free Apps,
Apple has updated Find My iPhone to version 2.0.1 and has added driving directions to your lost or stolen Apple device. The update brings a new feature called Lost Mode, which we're assuming tracks movement and stops with pin points. We at Gear Live highly recommend installing and enabling Find My iPhone on every iOS device you own.
- Driving directions to device location (iOS 6 or later)
- Play Sound, Lost Mode, and Erase buttons appear separately from map view

We can't stress enough the countless stories that highlight the benefits of having the Find My iPhone app installed on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and enabling Find My Mac on Apple computers, allowing you to track their whereabouts through iCloud. ABC News investigates and finds at least 400 TSA screeners who left, or were fired, after allegations of theft in the workplace. In the video below, ABC tracks down a stolen iPad, sting-operation-style, to a TSA agent's home with the use of Apple's free tracking service. The agent is caught on video and has the audacity to throw his wife under the bus, saying it must have been her that took it. The TSA Agency has come under fire in recent years and continues to find new ways to be in the news, obviously for the wrong reasons.

Apple’s Find My iPhone is now free

In our opinion, the best reason to subscribe to MobileMe has been the Find My iPhone service, a feature that allows anyone to pinpoint on a map where their iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad are located, in case they can't find them. You can also send a message to your device, play a sound, remote lock it, or even remote wipe. Today, in a surprising move, Apple decided to unbundle the service from MobileMe and offer it for free for the latest generation of iOS devices. So if you have an iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod Touch, or an iPad running iOS 4.2.1 or later, you're in!
