Quote of the Day: Kanye West Wants Fewer Fans

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Hip-Hop & Rap,

Kanye West

“I made a decision. I wanna make popular music, but I want less fans. I want the freedom of having less fans. It’s like the freedom of having less money. If you have less money, you have less responsibility. It’s like Björk. If she wanted to pose naked, you’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s Björk.’ But if I wanted to pose naked, people would draw all type of things into it. I definitely feel like, in the next however many years, if I work out for two months, that I’ll pose naked. I break every rule and mentality of hip-hop, of black culture, of American culture.”

Pineapple Express Meets Disinterest at Comic-Con

Comic-Con goers didn't care much for Pineapple ExpressWhile it never appears to be a good sign when at least a third of an audience leaves prior to one’s panel at Comic-Con, I am definitely rooting for Pineapple Express when it hits theaters in a couple weeks!

As depressing as that can be for anyone at such a hyped event, I would venture to say that Judd Apatow‘s latest project failed to meet success at the event due to misplacement. I mean, promoting a stoner movie to die-hard comic book fans? These are audiences who went crazy last year over The Dark Knight and The Incredible Hulk, and this year with Watchmen—not exactly the type whose favorite movies include Dazed and Confused or Dude, Where’s My Car?.

Chris Cornell Reacts to American Idol Song Choice

David Cook - Billie Jean

rock-n-roller David Cook sang his way into the Top 9, but in the doing may have upset some Chris Cornell fans.

Cook played Cornell’s version of the Michael Jackson classic “Billie Jean” during , earning him high praise from judges. But the Chris Cornell fans weren’t so pleased. After Cook’s performance, all three Idol judges praised his creativity. Randy Jackson called him “original” and “bold,” Paula Abdul said he was “brilliant,” and even Simon Cowell found it “brave” and “amazing.” Here’s the rub: there wasn’t anything original in either the arrangement of the song, or the way Cook sang it.

Inside Halo 3’s $10 Million Marketing Push

Microsoft has known how important Halo 3 will be to their success this generation since before they even announced the Xbox 360. Halo 2 sold $125 million on the first day, but then the original Xbox was just struggling for recognition in the wake of the PS2 juggernaut. Now the 360 holds a tenuous lead in installed base and isn’t selling the way Microsoft may have hoped. If it’s possible Halo 3 may have become even more important to Microsoft’s strategy than they originally hoped. Fortunately, they’ve been planning ahead.

In an article released today on Brand Week, the calculated ten-month marketing efforts behind ‘s trilogy finale is dissected starting from the Starry Nights TV spot launched last November through the public beta this spring/early summer. They talk about the Project Iris viral campaign and the efforts they’ve gone to secure strategic branding partners. This has included the Mountain Dew Game Fuel limited edition soft drink that comes plastered with Halo 3 imagery plus a total of $5 million from Pontiac to help push the launch of the game on September 25.

And they aren’t done yet. Microsoft will begin the full blitz with the new Believe campaign that will lead up to the launch taking place at midnight in over 10,000 stores to give Halo fans a chance to grab the game as soon as possible. It’s an interesting read about the science behind building a monster.

Fallout 3 Developers Ready to Answer Your Questions

Fallout 3After an avalanche of press following its showing at E3, is now soliciting questions from the community. In theory they’ll accept and answer questions about any of their properties but it seems pretty obvious from the comments so far that the main point of interest is Fallout 3.

With so much skepticism from the old school Fallout fans over the direction Bethesda is headed and the casual dismissal of those concerns that most of the mainstream gaming press has displayed, this could be a good chance for the developers to clarify some of the hows and whys diehards have been losing sleep over since the game was announced.

There are press junkets to do, filming to complete, autographs to sign…crazed fans hanging out around your house. Sandra Bullock and husband Jesse James were enjoying a quiet weekend when Marcia Diana Valentine, a huge Bullock fan, came to the couple’s home. It is unclear both what the fan wanted and how she managed to track down Bullock at her personal address. When asked to leave, Valentine hopped into her Mercedes and proceeded to attempt to run over Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James – more than once. Police were soon on the scene to locate Valentine and offer protection. Bullock’s husband is uninjured, and the guilty party has since been captured.
