Microsoft Launches Workspace

Say hello to Microsoft Office Live Workspace. The beta service lets you create and share documents, provided you use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to do so. New features include an activity panel and e-mail notification about changes made. Bookmark a workspace or item with direct links and upload more than one file at a time with drag-and-drop. You also get access with any computer and can invite others into your private space. MS claims that you can store 1000+ files on the Workspace, so if you feel lucky, punk, give it a shot.

ICUE Lets You Read Via Cell Phone

ICUE Forget the Kindle and the Readius.You can now receive hundreds of books via ICUE on your cell phone, priced from .50 (~$.98) to £4.50 (~$9.00) Your phone will store them to read when you like, either one word at a time, a phrase, or moving left to right at your chosen pace. You can also receive newspapers, e-mail, and blogs.

Simply download the application 64888 to your phone and you are registered for free once you sign up with Bango for payment. Then select classic, sci-fi, western, or hot best-sellers off their menu and your phone company places the charges on your monthly bill. There is also a folder for storage. We think the idea is great, but that would take a lot of battery charging if your phone is one of the older models.

Readius Is Diminutive

Readius Another reader has arrived to compete with the Kindle. The Dutch company Polymer Vision spun off from Philips and has been working for 2 years on its Readius which will hit stores sometime this year. The device is about the size of 2 credit cards, weighs about as much as a cell phone, and folds up when not in use. With its 5-inch display, you can read news, blogs, audio books, view podcasts, and catch up on your e-mail. The Readius can also make phone calls and connect online with cellphone networks, has a super-battery life, and should cost about the same as a high-end cell phone. The company also has plans to add a keypad in the future.

We are certain that it would be more convenient to do so if you are in a theatre or a business meeting and awaiting either good or bad news. There is now a 30-day free trial available and if you decide to subscribe, it is for 40 per month for $9.95, with $.25 for each additional or unlimited messages for $29.95 per month for a limited time. A good deal if you are constantly missing messages, not so good if you use it when you are driving.

Microsoft Increases Hotmail Storage

Hotmail Microsoft has decided to more than double its Hotmail service capacity and will now store up to 5 GB of e-mail messages and images. They are undoubtedly hoping that this move will take them from the number 2 spot and unseat their rival Yahoo. The company also says that its performance will speed up, it will combine duplicate contacts in its address book, there will be a new “report phishing button,” and an option to log in straight to your inbox from the home page.

“We know this is going to be a big hit with a lot of you out there in blog land,” said Ellie Powers-Boyle, a program manager for Windows Live Hotmail.

It certainly is a big hit with those of us who like our Hotmail and have stuck with it despite the mini-storage for all these years.

Sony Ericsson Releases 7550a Quad-Band

Sony Ericsson 7550a Sony Ericcson today announced the release of its Z550a quand-band clamshell phone, which has been designed just for the Americas. It features a 262k TFT display (220 x 176 pixels), a 1.3 Megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, a music and video media player, M2 (Memory Stick Micro) support, and 25MB of memory. You can send SMS/MMS/EMS or e-mail by POP or IMAP4. The Z550a also features full HTML browsing, an FM tuner, and Bluetooth capability. No news yet on price and availability, but check out Sony Ericsson to see if you should add it to your list for Santa this year.
