Russell Brand Wants Drug Law Reform in Wake of Hoffman’s Death

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Drugs, Features, Obituaries,

Russell BrandRussell Brand has called for a reform of drug laws following Philip Seymour Hoffman's death.

The Oscar-winning actor tragically died in his New York City apartment over the weekend after experiencing a relapse, and Brand - who himself has battled drug addiction and alcoholism in the past - believes he is a ""victim" of laws that "criminalize drug addicts."

The 38-year-old comedian-turned-political activist believes addiction is a "mental illness" and should be treated as a medical condition in order to prevent tragedies such as Hoffman's death from a suspected heroin overdose. In an article written for The Guardian newspaper, he stated, "Addiction is a mental illness around which there is a great deal of confusion, which is hugely exacerbated by the laws that criminalize drug addicts. If drugs are illegal people who use drugs are criminals. We have set our moral compass on this erroneous premise, and we have strayed so far off course that the landscape we now inhabit provides us with no solutions and greatly increases the problem. People are going to use drugs; no self-respecting drug addict is even remotely deterred by prohibition."

Enrique Iglesias Has Never Done Drugs

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drugs, Features,

Enrique IglesiasEnrique Iglesias has never dabbled in drugs.

The "Hero" hitmaker claims he's never been tempted to try an illegal substance, despite being surrounded by people in the industry that regularly snort cocaine:

"I was never tempted by drugs. The amount of times I've been asked, 'You don't do coke? But you're in music. You really don't do coke?' I don't like sticking stuff up my nose. Get me a drink, get me a rum. I drink, I'm a social drinker but I feel like I can control it. There are friends of mine who go out at the weekend and do a lot of cocaine and do any drug and be perfectly fine throughout the week. But some others can't do that. I need my eight hours' sleep, that's for sure."

Meanwhile, the 38-year-old singer believes that Justin Bieber, 19 - who was arrested last month for driving under the influence (DUI), driving with an expired license and resisting arrest in Miami - is just being young and experimenting with life.

Justin Bieber Took Drugs on Plane

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Drugs,

Justin Bieber's private jet was so thick with marijuana smoke, the pilots had to wear oxygen masks.

The "Believe" singer, his father Jeremy Bieber and an entourage of 10 flew from Canada to New Jersey last Friday and ignored warnings to stop smoking the narcotic, with flight staff forced to take drastic action as inhaling the smoke would have led to them failing drug tests, NBC News reports.

"The captain of the flight stated that he warned the passengers, including Bieber, on several occasions to stop smoking marijuana," the official incident report said. And the 19-year-old singer and his dad were "extremely abusive" to the flight attendant, prompting her to take refuge in the cockpit. "The captain also stated he needed to request that the passengers stop their harassing behaviour toward the flight attendant and after several warnings asked the flight attendant to stay with him near the cockpit to avoid any further abuse. The flight attendant stated the passengers, including Bieber and his father, Jeremy Bieber were extremely abusive verbally and she would not work another flight with them," the report continued.

Philip Seymour HoffmanPhilip Seymour Hoffman was still attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings days before he died.

The Capote actor - who was found dead of an apparent heroin overdose at his New York apartment on Sunday - had been attending the support meetings for over two decades, and recently confided to one group member he was struggling with "little situations" in life.

Jose Torres, who saw Philip at a meeting in Greenwich Village on January 24, recalled, "I told him to keep coming back, and he said, 'Yeah, I will.' I remember asking, 'How are you doing?' And he said, 'OK. There are the little situations in life. Life still shows up.' He went to a lot of different places, but he came here mostly."

Philip - who had been sober for 20 years before checking into rehab last May - was highly regarded by the other attendees at the meetings. "Everybody loved him, and he loved everybody no matter who you were," Jose added to the New York Post.

According to gossip website TMZ, the actor was drinking heavily and looked "disheveled and dirty" in the weeks before his death and when asked how bad his problem was, he replied, "If I don't stop I know I'm gonna die."

Getting Bullied Prompted Leonardo DiCaprio’s Career

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Drugs, Features,

Leonardo DiCaprioLeonardo DiCaprio claims getting beaten up when he was 15 changed his whole life.

The actor was brought up in a tough area of East Hollywood, Los Angeles, but won a scholarship to University Elementary School in a better part of town, which meant he was in for a shock when he later returned to standard schooling.

"When I went back to the public school system it was like - boom - this is reality. I got beat up the day I arrived because I had the attitude of everyone living harmoniously with one another. That was the motivational thing that happened to me in my life. I was 15, and I said to my mom, 'I want to be an actor. Please take me to auditions.' Because I had to get out of that public school system."

The Wolf of Wall Street star Leonardo, 39, also said his upbringing in an area where there was "a major prostitution ring on my street corner [and] crime and violence everywhere" meant he has never had the desire to take drugs.

Claudia Schiffer Was Never a Party Girl

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Models,

Claudia SchifferClaudia Schiffer didn't party during the 90s when she found fame.

The 43-year-old model insists she was "innocent" and didn't really embrace the rock 'n' roll lifestyle like many other models did, and instead she chose to go home after fashion shows. "I didn't really go to the parties - I'd go home after the shows. A lot of bad things can happen at fashion parties, but I wasn't aware of that at the time. I was so innocent. I wasn't aware that people were taking drugs around me and I was never offered anything. And I didn't like the taste of cigarettes or alcohol," she told the UK's Marie Claire.

Although she's doesn't regularly talk to many models from her era, catwalk stars such as Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Nadja Auermann, when they do reconnect they can just pick their relationship up from where they left it.

Claudia - who is married to director Matthew Vaughn, with whom she has three children, son Caspar, 10, daughter Clementine, nine, and daughter Cosima, three - added, "Very occasionally. We're still in contact via e-mail. I might be in LA and e-mail Cindy or see Eva in London. It's very sporadic, but when I see them I can still talk to them and pick up where we left off. That's the kind of bond that I don't think will ever break. Even though there was a large amount of competition, there was also a camaraderie and we knew that we were part of that club that was very special."
