Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock picks up USB 3.0, eSATA ports

If you thought the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock looked good before, wait until you hear about the pre-launch upgrades it's just picked up. It still packs in the dual Thunderbolt ports, FireWire 800, Gigabit Ethernet, and audio in and out. Now, though, it will also include an eSATA port, as well as three USB 3.0 ports as well. That new goodness comes with a higher price tag though, as the dock wil now cost $399 (rather than the previously-announced $299) at launch. It'll be available next month directly from Belkin.

Apple reveals 27-inch Thunderbolt Display with HD Facetime

Apple Thunderbolt Display

Along with OS X Lion, the new MacBook Air, and the new Mac Mini, Apple also unveiled their new Thunderbolt Display (replacing the Cinema Display line) today. The 27-inch beast obviously has a Thunderbolt port, but also brings other things to the table, like FireWire 800, Gigabit Ethernet port, and a built-in FaceTime HD camera and mic with integrated 2.1 speaker system. It's a 2560 x 1440 16:9 IPS display, and can be used as a docking station for your Apple notebook. You can also daisy-chain up to 6 other high-speed Thunderbolt devices to it as well, and if you have an older Mac, you should know that these are also backwards-compatible with Mini DisplayPort connectors. The new Thunderbolt Display sells for $999, and should be available sometime in the next 60 days.

Tivoli iPAL I love listening to my iPod. Everywhere I go, I have it plugged in - on the road, in my car, on the bus, at work; everywhere. But no matter how much I love having all of my audio/visual media right at my fingertips, there has always been one thing that has bothered me about iPods and all of their associated paraphernalia - they all look the same.

They all resemble something that Eero Saarinen carved out of a block of plastic, polished to a shine, and made available to the public. This is all well and good if you have a condo chock-full of Jetsons furniture, eschewing any and all hard lines in favor of the Apple standard of soft eggshell curved products. I, on the other hand, am a pretty typical guy and have a living space peppered with very angular, semi-broken furniture and accoutrements that make a proto-futuristic iPod docking station look a tad out of place.

Enter Tivoli’s iPAL docking station. Resembling something that would be right at home on a WWII submarine or knocking around in the jungle on a National Geographic expedition; it is the perfect addition to my jumbled, yet spartan living situation. Stacked next to my hotplate and the Zenith TV that I use as the base for my coffee table, it looks perfectly natural - like it was meant to be there. Despite its rugged and retro appearance, it offers amazing sound quality, and also comes with an AM/FM auto-tuner and a NiMH battery pack that recharges in three hours and offers 16 hours of continuous play.

While its price, at $274.04 (192.40 Euro) makes it far more expensive than any of the rest of my furniture, it still looks mighty fine sitting atop my bookshelf made of cinder-blocks and 2x4’s.

WowWee Cinemin Suite Projectors

WowWee, the company that brought us Robosapiens and animatronic creatures, has now branched out. They have a series of iPod compatible multimedia pico projectors powered by TI’s DLP technology. The Cinemin Suite’s Swivel is a lightweight micro projector that has an adjustable 90º hinge to adjust the lens, full volume control and a 3 hr. battery life. The Stick has an internal memory with an expandable SD card slot. The Station is somewhat larger but includes an iPod docking station and media center. Unveiled at the CES, no price has been announced.

mStation Stereo Tower

It seems that Voix isn’t the only company that is into iPod tower speakers. Made of extruded aluminum, the floor standing mStation 2.1 Stereo Tower has up to 100W of power, a 5.25-inch subwoofer and a 6 cradle docking station that syncs with iTunes. The 10 key IR remote allows for navigation and adjusting treble, bass and volume. USB and stereo Mini cables are included in the package. We dig the design, but you can expect a $295.95 price tag.

Voix MPX iPod Speaker System

MPX Speaker System Voix recently unveiled its unique MPX iPod docking/charging system. Each aluminum tower has a height of 3 1/2 ft. with a weight of 4.5 kg. It can deliver 150W maximum from its 4 vertically aligned cone speakers, also made of aluminum. The subwoofer is built into the base. Included in the package is a remote for controlling sound, volume, and iPod functions. Available for £$259.99 (~$450.00,) the MPX also works with MP3, DVD, and CD players, as well as game consoles, TVs and laptops.

Albatron Technology Tee Mini-Tablet

Russia’s Albatron Technology is entering the computer market with its first Tee PC. The mini-tablet comes with all the hard and software you need, including an adapter, a stylus, and docking station. Running on Windows CE 6.0, it has a software-based keyboard but will also support a USB alternate. At a size of 18.8x11.3x 1.3 cm and a weight of 343 grams, it has a 0.3/1.3M swivel cam, included internal speakers, SD Card slot, and has 128 MB of Nand flash and 128MB of SO-DIMM DDR memory.
