Wood Turntable

Joel Scilley certainly knows how to make a mean custom turntable. Some are his designs, but he also custom makes ones from others’ plans. All of them feature an Origin Live DC motor controller and quality bearings and are made with redwood burl, walnut and other wood. Featured at the recently opened FiveTen Studio in Oakland, the Audiowood turntables are all available for sale and Joel can also create audio devices such as speakers, racks and stands.

Self-Flushing Toilet

Toilet

The thing is so smart it puts down the seat after it has been flushed without the use of an energy source. The four contenders were given a prize for best product at the Young Enterprise entrepreneurial awards. This is a prototype that we hope gets some funding and makes it to the market soon.

Pay Phone Booth Becomes Aquarium

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Design, Misc. Tech,

Phone Booth AquariumPay phone booths are few and far between these days since we all have cellies. Artists Benoit Deseille and Benedetto Bufalino decided to turn one into a work of art as part of the recent Lyon Light Festival in France. This seems a great idea in terms of recycling, but the artists had more of a deeper theme in mind for their oversized fish tank. “We rediscover this glass cage transformed into an aquarium, full of exotically coloured fish; an invitation to escape and travel.”

eCO2 Watch Cuts Down on Carbon Footprint

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Design, Science,

eCO2 WatchThe eCO2 watch is an interesting prototype that helps decrease your own carbon footprint. Of course it is a watch, but it also utilizes kinetic energy to pull in CO2 through its intake vents and spits out clean air through exhaust vents. While it seems that it would not make much of an impact, imagine if James Kershaw and Chad Garns’ creation was given to an entire city. In the meantime, when Earth Day comes April 22, it wouldn’t hurt to plant a couple of trees to do the same thing.
