Matchstick Tower Bridge Up for Bid

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech, Toys,

Description

Artist Michael Williams has created a London Tower Bridge out of 1.6 million matchsticks by using photos and images in books. The scaled-down perfectly proportioned creation is 800 ft. long and has an illuminated 52 gun galleon underneath. The water is also filled with lights. While it took him a decade to build, Williams now wants to sell the clever structure to fund a studio. Head over to his site if you want to make a bid. Smokers and pyromaniacs should probably not apply.

Andru OgreIn our never-ending quest for the cheesiest online promotions, try this weird one. You can now send someone a Chi-Chi Gram. Choose between a cyclops, chicken or cougar, upload an image, and adjust the eyes and mouth. Choose some music, preview your artistic work, then e-mail it to a friend or anyone else you would like to annoy. We’re not sure this will help sell the salsa, but it’s worth a few minutes of time and you can pick up a recipe or two.

Alice Chess Set

Alice Chess Set

Yasmin Sethi’s Chess Set was inspired by the classic novel “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” In the novel, the heroine becomes a human chess piece. Yasmin’s pieces are opaque until they are placed on the surface of the board. Then they become transparent. They are made of LightPoints, a glass material with LEDs. The designer says that his creation has a point.

“This is a comment on how a chess piece has no value unless it is in play on the board. If removed from the board, a pawn and a queen are equal, in that neither have any value.”

Hmmm. Very deep stuff. Fans of the Lewis Carroll novel will also appreciate the White Knights that only function when they are upside down.

Cube Art Lego Machine

We remember going to Legoland a few years back and noticed that adults played with the blocks as much as the kidlets. (They are placed at the various restaurants in the park.) We are amazed at all of the genuine artists that continue to work with Legos and Rubik’s Cubes to make creations. Check out this collection that is incredibly impressive. Designs vary from the Rubik’s puzzle to Zach Clapsadle’s amazing LEGO Steam Machines.

Poll: iPhone 3G - black or white?

So, now that we’ve cleared up the iPhone 3G price confusion (we think), we are curious what you guys will be picking up once the device is unleashed. Apple has moved away from the aluminum-looking backing, instead opting for a glossy black finish on the 8GB . However, if you opt for the 16GB model, you get a choice between glossy black and glossy white. What say you?

Maury’s Baby Maker Website

Baby MakerBaby Maker Result

We aren’t really into the Maury Povich Show, but we decided to try out his baby maker anyway. You simply take two images and circle the major features and voila! you make a baby. Because some of us don’t do pictures, we tried our South Park pic and an Elvis M&M. The results are fairly gruesome, don’t you think? Even by cartoon standards, this is one ugly baby, and a more difficult program than most we have shown you. Try one for yourself, but don’t expect spectacular results.

Wine Stopper USB Memory Stick

Wine Stopper USB StickWine connoisseurs/geeks, it’s time to say “Cheers!” Arwye Wan has designed a USB 2.0 flash drive shaped like a cork wine stopper. Handmade and at a size of 50 x 20mm, the stick holds 1GB memory and supports Windows, Linux and Mac. The storage device comes in a white gift box and will be available soon, so contact smediart for details and price. What a great idea for for a vineyard and/or retailers to get one with their logo on it and information about their product included in the design. Personally, our wine knowledge is pretty much limited to Ripple.
