Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cable, Dancing With The Stars, Video,
Earlier this week, TV Envy had the opportunity to chat with actress Molly Ringwald—star of Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club – on a variety of subjects including her new book (Getting the Pretty Back), teen pregnancy in Hollywood, her Pretty in Pink dress, reality TV and her connection to another famous redhead.
In addition, Ringwald talked to us about her recent partnership with Ragu. The working mother of three explains why she teamed up with the famous brand and how the company’s Old World Style sauces play a role in her family’s nutrition. (Those who visit Ragu’s Facebook page can also hear Molly talking about her mealtime tips there. Cooking demos and simple recipes are also available.)
Molly can currently be seen on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. That ABC Family series is in the middle of its third season.

Quote of the Day: Anthony Bourdain on FOX’s Masterchef
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Food & Home, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip,
“Dreadful. I saw one episode where they had the contestants try to identify the ingredients of chili. ‘I’m guessing there’s onion in there’—you know what I’m saying? ‘There might be beef too.’ I wish Gordon Ramsay well, but I think Top Chef remains the benchmark.”

MasterChef Review: Gordon Ramsay Displays a Softer Side
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Food & Home, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip,
FOX premiered its third show featuring Gordon Ramsay, MasterChef, Tuesday night. The series had a strong lead-in: Ramsay’s first FOX show, Hell’s Kitchen. He’s the chef known for his tough exterior and passionate, some might say vulgar, insults. Ramsay routinely screams in the faces of the chefs under his tutelage on Hell’s Kitchen - so fans were no doubt expecting to see a tough, fiery chef during the MasterChef premiere.
What they got was a gentler, kinder Gordon Ramsay. He slipped into the role of motivator for MasterChef, sitting at the head of a panel of three judges (the other two are tough-as-nails restaurateur Joe Bastianich and four-star chef Graham Elliot). Talented home cooks came before the panel to present their dishes. Some dishes were met with disdain, but Ramsay didn’t scream “donkey” at a single contestant. He dispensed hugs, smiles and encouragement with ease - far removed from the furious chef mien he wears for Hell’s Kitchen, which aired the same night.

Ratio: An indispensable cooking tool app
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Lifestyle, Reviews, $4.99,
We’ve been playing with the Ratio app for a bit, and we must say, we’re impressed. If you are into cooking, or if you want to get into cooking, this is one of those apps that comes out and sets you free from recipes and having to follow them perfectly. The app is $5, and here’s what you can expect from it:
- The 32 critical ratios that form the backbone of the culinary arts, with instructions: doughs, batters, meat preparations, custards, sauces (pasta dough and pizza dough, sponge cake and pancakes, fritters and crepes, stocks and sauces, crème caramel and chocolate sauce.
- A calculator that figures out how much of each ingredient you need, no matter how many or how few people you want to serve.
- An ounces-to-grams converter (ratios work no matter what unit you choose to use!).
- Delicious variations for recipes on all the ratios, ideas for the creation of new dishes according to your tastes.
- An easy way to store your own recipes and notes that you’ve created from the basic ratios.
- Quick fun ways to share what your cooking with your fellow cooks, on Facebook and on Twitter.
- Ratios is also a great way to understand and tweak your own recipes, to help you make your pancakes even fluffier, your pizza dough crisper, your crème brulee richer.
Definitely nice to have in the palm of your hand, and the app is already optimized for iOS 4.

Kelis’ Sauce-y Side
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music,
Kelis wants to launch her own range of sauces.
The “Milkshake” singer is now a certified saucier after taking a course at renowned London culinary school Le Cordon Bleu and she wants to share her taste bud-tickling skills with the world.
“I want to have my own sauce line. I became a saucier in school,” she revealed. “I love the lifestyle of a great meal. I think food, fashion and music all go together when it’s done right. I also want to get my sommelier certification, which I’m going to do eventually. I love the whole thing. I want to go back to school, too.”
Kelis - who has a five-month-old son, Knight, with ex-husband Nas - sought comfort in the food course after becoming disillusioned with the music business after she was dropped by her record label in 2007.
The 30-year-old star - who is now signed to will.i.am Music Group/Interscope - added to Idolator: “I took some time off. I really just shut down, even to the point where I was like, I don’t want to sing anymore. I went to culinary school and just regrouped and got my heart back for music.”

Food Network’s Next Big Reality Twist
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Food & Home, Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Gossip, Video,
Imagine how delighted seven seasons’ worth of contestants would be if Simon Cowell stepped onto the Idol stage to sing - and, subsequently, be judged. On Season 2 of Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef, a hard-to-please judge will most certainly be on the set…but not to offer her critique.
Starting Sunday, Chopped‘s Amanda Freitag will be stepping out from behind the big table to stand under the harsh glare of criticism herself. Freitag is bucking to be The Next Iron Chef, the second the series has picked through reality TV competition. Michael Symon was the first to win the honor; he has gone on to enjoy a 7-2-1 winning record in Kitchen Stadium.

Baking Buff Rumer Willis
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Horror, Mystery, Thrillers, Celebrity Gossip,
Newly turned 21-year-old Rumer Willis would much rather bide her time making pies than doing the Hollywood scene.
The Sorority Row actress, who is the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, can’t resist her cravings for sugary baked goods, so she spends her free time in the kitchen.
“I just don’t care about fame. I have better things to do—like making pies. I love making pies. It all started when I went on a road trip with my boyfriend. We stopped off at this diner and had this strawberry and rhubarb pie, and I thought, ‘This is incredible. I’m going to learn how to make it.’ So I did.”
Rumer is so accomplished at baking, she even treats Demi and her stepfather Ashton Kutcher to their favorite pies.
“My mom likes either pecan pie or German chocolate, and I just made a coconut banana cream pie for Ashton. He liked that very much. It was gone in a matter of three days.”
