Intel Renames Processors and MIDs Atom

name change to go along with some of its new tech, the first out since their PentiumPro was released in 1995. Atom is what they now call their low-power processors and low cost MIDs that will become available sometime later this year. They believe that the market is right for pocket sized “netbooks” priced at around $250.00. The chip itself is about 25 square mm, and were previously referred to as Silverthorne and Diamondville. In an even kinder move, the Atom MID was formerly code named Menlow.

Intel Launches Santa Rosa Chipset, Centrino Duo Is Here

Intel Santa RosaIf you aren’t up on your PC processor release news, you may be interested in knowing that Intel has finally debuted it’s Santa Rosa chipset, which aims to lead mobile computing into the future. Aside from a better graphics chip that boasts DirectX 10 abilities, you can expect draft 802.11n Wifi support as well as front-side bus speeds of 800 MHz, up from 667 MHz. Now, don’t go looking for Santa Rosa stickers on laptops, because you won’t find them. Instead, just about all new laptops will be sporting a Centrino Duo or Centrino Pro label.
