Motorola ZINE ZN5 Camera Phone Available Today
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Cameras, Smartphones,
Motorola‘s 5-megapixel ZN5 cameraphone arrived online and in select corporate T-Mobile stores this morning. Unlike most camera phone’s, the quad-band ZN5 takes high resolution photos using Kodak Imaging Technology – including autofocus, low-light optimization, and a real Xenon flash. Once you’ve snapped a picture, it can be instantly sent via MMS, WiFi or Bluetooth – or you can store it on 350MB of internal memory which is expandable up to 4GB via microSD.
With a price as low as $99 with a 2-year contract, we think this will be a popular new choice; however, the phone lacks support for T-Mobile’s new 3G network, opting instead for EDGE, which will certainly make some think twice before signing up.

Sharp Aquos Fulltough 931SH high-resolution mobile phone
Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Cameras, Smartphones, Handhelds, Portable Audio / Video, Wireless / WiFi,
The Japanese always manage to get the best cell phones first and we always hope they trickle over to the U.S. and the new Sharp Aquos Fulltouch 931SH is no exception to the rule. This new cell phone is an obvious response to the iPhone and its touch technology. The one thing that sets this cell phone apart is the incredible screen resolution of 1024 x 480, bringing it close to that of a netbook. The 931SH also incorporates a 5.2 megapixel camera with stabilizer technology, a 1seg TV tuner, Bluetooth with A2DP, an accelerometer, web browser, media player, a microSD slot and of course, a touch screen as the name implies. The phone also works on all 3G networks, making it viable for U.S. as well as world-wide consumption, although no time-frame has been mentioned.

Motorola MOTOAURA gets pictured and reviewed
Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Smartphones, Design, Product Reviews,
Not many people have the luxury of spending $2000 on a mobile phone. The MOTOAURA is a new luxury phone from Motorola which incorporates an 240x320-pixel display enclosed behind an A-grade 62-carat Sapphire lens, giving it expense and a scratch-proof cover. The enclosure is almost all metal except at the bottom where there is a small piece of plastic for the internal antenna. The back of the MOTOAURA has a watch-like quality in that it allows you to see the workings of its switchblade-style opening mechanism. The rest of the MOTOAURA is your normal cell phone, incorporating a keypad and screen. Mobile-Review has plenty of pictures, a full review and a video showing how scratch-resistive the screen is. It’s hard to see people spend this kind of money on such a simple device, but if you need that premium device that is out of reach for most of the population, then the MOTOAURA is just what you have been looking for.

The Bold will support international navigation services and Wi-fi for folks who do a lot of traveling. One analyst, Chris King of Stifel Nicolas, says the appeal will be mostly exec types. Those that can probably will.

Apple drops the iPhone NDA
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, Software,
This morning, Apple finally answered the call of iPhone developers the world over when they finally put an end to the iPhone NDA nonsense. For those not in the know, the problem here was that developers couldn’t talk about the development process of their apps, even after they were released and publicly available in the App Store. This put an unnecessary burden on developers, many of whom thought that it was hindering the development of great apps, as developers couldn’t even talk to each other about the apps that they had released, techniques used, and lessons learned, without breaking the NDA. As of today, the NDA no longer stands on applications that have been released. The NDA still remains on software that is still unreleased, but still, this is a big win in the iPhone dev world.
You can check out the release from Apple after the break.

Apple readying CDMA iPhone?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors,
The rumor mill has been buzzing today with whispers that Apple may be readying a CDMA version of the iPhone, which would have EVDO support. So, when would this one be announced? Apparently, at MacWorld 2009 in January. Unfortunately, we are gonna have to call shenanigans on this one. After all, Verizon Wireless was supposed to get the iPhone originally, but were too wrapped up in a traditional cell carrier mindset to see that it would be a boon to their business. Then, AT&T came in and signed a multi-year exclusivity contract in the USA. Plus, it’s not like Apple needs more distribution for the iPhone to make it a success, it’s doing just fine. We think they’d rather focus their iPhone staff on the next iteration of the phone, rather than going sideways to make one that will work on Verizon’s network. Sure, we could be wrong, but…nah…we don’t think so.

iPhone 2.2 beta seeded to developers
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Software,
Right on the heels of the iPhone 2.1 release that seems to cure just about all our iPhone-related woes (although, honestly, some are still there,) Apple has just released iPhone 2.2 into beta, and seeded it to their iPhone devs. Officially, we are talking about iPhone OS 2.2 beta 1, and as such, we have no timetable or anything as to when this will actually hit the masses. But still, it’s nice to know that it’s coming, right? What would you like to see addressed in iPhone 2.2?
