X-Life Teaches Harmony to the Middle East
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Portable/Mobile, Role Playing Games,
The State Department has invested $415,000 in a cell phone game named X-life. Designed to endear us to the Middle East and Persian Gulf, the game involves four or five hours of play with two modes, student and musician. It attempts to teach English and a bit of U.S. history. Only about 120 have been given away so far. That might be because it only works with Nokia N Series and Sony Ericsson P1i mobile phones or maybe those targeted have better things to do with their time than play games that may appear as propaganda.

Opt Out of Verizon Open-End Sharing
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News,
Writer David Weinberger payed attention to a pamphlet he received from Verizon that informed him that he has only 45 days to opt out of allowing the company to share his personal information. That would include “information created by virtue of your relationship with Verizon Wireless,” including “services purchased including specific calls you make and receive, billing info, technical info and location info.” They promise to only share this with “affiliates, agents and parent companies.”
You might want to check your latest accompanying paperwork from the company and call 1-800-333-9956 or check your status online. After being put on hold for doing just that, David was told to go to the My Profile tab in My Verizon, click Phone controls, and he would find the link.

How do you keep your company going in this evil recession? If you are Palm, you sell about 18 million shares of its stock. The proceeds will pay off $49 million in debts to Elevations Partners and the rest will go back to Palm, so that they can stay alive until the Pre is available in Q2. If you are considering the purchase of one, this might be a way to help the California company and get your own share of the phone.

MocoSpace Survey Shows Effect of Social Networking
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Internet, Misc. Tech,
The site MocoSpace asked 10,000 of its users questions about their relationships. The results have some interesting answers such as 45% admitting they have used their phone to break up with their partner, mostly by text. Now we realize that because MocoSpace is a social networking site does not necessarily make it an unbiased survey. Even if that is the case, we still found these additional responses amusing:
- Men are more likely to break up via mobile than women.
- 73% admit that their cell phone is the most important device in their social life as compared to 2% who answered their computer.
- 34% admit to flirting with someone else while on a date via their phone.
- While most admitted they make new friends mostly in the “real world,” 19% say mobile connection is also important.

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, GPS, Music, Video Games, Wireless / WiFi,
The Cool8800C works like an ordinary cell phone with touchscreen until you unfold it and it becomes a mini-gaming system with a second screen with audio/video/NES compatibility. Other features of the 120 x 55 x 23 device is dual-band GSM with GPRS, Bluetooth and e-book capability, an FM tuner, 1GB memory and microSD and TF card slots. We dig the idea and the $140.00 price, but we are thinking that you might have to practice to get the hang of the gaming aspect.
