With the move to cloud and digital content that's taken the world by storm, older technologies have fallen by the wayside. The problem, though, is that there are still plenty of great pieces of content that are relegated to VHS, film reels, cassette tapes, and records. Today in my Ask Andru column, we have a question from Janine, a kindergarten teacher who wants to know how to convert her books on cassette over to a digital format. Let's jump into it.

Q: I listen to your show and really enjoy all your tips. I teach Kindergarten and have many books on cassettes that my students love listening to. Some of the cassettes are getting a bit worn. So I thought I could convert them over to CDs instead of buying new books with CDs. Do you have any suggestions on what would be the best way to do this that is affordable?

Panasonic Blu-ray Car Entertainment Center

Since you are already buying Blu-ray discs for your home, maybe it is time to upgrade to Panasonic’s car entertainment system. Install the CN-HX900D dash-mountable device with its CD/DVD player, 40GB Windows hard drive, GPS, and Bluetooth and iPod/iPhone compatibility. Add to that a 7-inch 1280x720 display. Then you need a CYBB1000D for the kidlets in the back. Look for it to come out in the fall. No price has been released as yet, but we figure this one is going to cost a bit.

Some Beatles Albums to be Reissued

Apple Corps and EMI have finally decided to release sonically upgraded reissues of 12 Beatles albums from the period between 1963 and 1970 in both stereo and mono. They will debut on Sept. 9, the same day the Beatles’ Rock Band video game is to come out. The collection will be on a total of 16 CDs and include “Rubber Soul” and “Magical Mystery Tour.” Downloadable versions have yet to have a release date but the matter may also be settled by the September deadline.

The desktop features a dual core AMD Athlon X2 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 250GB HDD, WiFi compatibility and a SuperMulti 8X dual layer DVD/CD reader-burner. Add to that a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam, Windows Vista Home Basic, 1 SATA and 4 USB 2.0 ports. The D1133 is decently priced at $599.99.

Moon In My Room

A CD comes with it that provides moon facts and its relationship with the planet. Denon SACD/DVD/Blu-ray Player

Denon has unveiled what they say is the first universal SACD/DVD/Blu-ray player. The DVD-A1UD has a Pure AV Direct, 32-bits/192kHz D/A converter, 7.1-channel analog outputs, an SD/SDHC card slot, and two HDMI 1.3 outputs. The player is compatible with DTS-HD Master Audio / Dolby TrueHD audio format and although not BD-Live ready, Denon says there will be firmware in the future for upgrade. Look for a ¥546,000 (~$584.00) price.

NIN Releases Free Album Download

We so dig finding free stuff on the Net for you! This time it is Nine Inch Nails’ new release “The Slip.” While Prince offered a free single with his last album, you can download this one in its entirety. The formats include MP3, FLAC, M4A, or WAVE. Each one includes a PDF with artwork and credits. If you like what you hear on your PC or laptop, NIN is hoping you will also purchase their CD this summer. Click here for download.

Kleer Opera Cordless Headset

Kleer has teamed with the Korean company DigiFi to create Opera, a cordless headset that wraps around your head and over your ears with an iPod adapter. They claim it has CD-quality audio with up to 10 hours of continuous play. The Opera also has multi-point Listen in technology so that four people, if they also have a set of the buds, can listen to the same audio stream. We would love to find a set of earbuds that are really comfortable and have no cords to choke on but might think twice at a MSRP of $98.00.

1920s Style Spirit Clock CD Radio

Spirit Clock CD Radio The 1920 Style Spirit may look retro but is as modern as it gets. The device is a 4-hand analog clock with alarm, AM/FM radio, and a full feature CD player with programmable memory. Encased in wood, it has a metal handle, steel toggle switches, and a backlit dial. At a size of 5 x 11.5 x 6.25-inches, it puts out 0.8W per channel and carries a MSRP of £129.95 (~$257.00.) A Clock Radio version is also available for £99.95 (~$198.00.)
