Samsung has a nifty design with its HMX-R10 HD Camcorder. Flip out its 2.7-inch LCD touchscreen with TouchUI control that they promise to be responsive and simple to use. With a 5x zoom lens that angles up to 25º, it also has a flash, captures up to 600 fps in H.264 format, takes 9MP still photos and can store 1920x1080 videos on SD/SDHC cards. The cam was released this week in Korea with a price of ~$499.99, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it made it to the States this holiday season.

These Korean Transformers are clever enough if you are thinking gifts. One of the cameras is in the shape of a 35mm roll of film. Curiously, you have to load a 35mm roll of film to get it to operate. The other is disguised as a coffee can and thankfully is not powered by a shot of caffeine. Each is 65 x 141mm, and will set you back 27,000 KRW (~$20.00) at 10x10.

UK Residents Block Google Street View Car

Google CarMany areas in the UK, such as shopping centers and streets, have surveillance cameras. But Broughton residents had had enough and formed a human chain to keep out a car that was shooting for Google Street View. Paul Jacobs noticed the car and got ticked off enough to round up his neighbors to block the road. By the time the police showed up, the car had left the area. This is not the first time Street View has had complaints. Pictures of shelters for battered woman in the U.S. were previously removed.

Cisco to Purchase Pure Digital

Flip minoCisco Systems has announced that it is buying Pure Digital for about $590 million in stock. The company has enough cash for investing in such companies and CEO John Chambers said that a weak economy can mean a good opportunity. Pure Digital has only been around for about 2 years and about 2 million Flips have already been sold. In a kind move, Cisco is offering stock incentives for employees who stay with the company.

Continuing our look at pocket HD camcorders, we were able to get our hands on a new Kodak Zi6 Pocket Video Camera, which shoots in 720p high definition, at a full 60 frames per second. In case you were wondering, that’s unique for ultra-portable HD camcorders. There isn’t much storage space on-board, but that is rectified by the SD card slot, which supports up for a 32 GB SD card. The Kodak Zi6 also includes an SD AV cable, as well as an HD cable, allowing you to plug the camera directly into an to view the content on it. Samsung has unveiled new media processors for digital photo frames. The S5L2010 series can display 15 Mpixel JPEGs in less than 3 seconds. They are compatible with MPEG-1/2/4, Xvid, Motion JPEG, MP3, WMA, OGG and AAC files. Also incorporated is an ADC for touchscreen control, LCD backlight, an audio PWM 2 channel output, TV-Out, and a DVB-T interface. Samsung is now testing the technology that should be out in the Q1 2009.
