Supreme Court to drop the hammer on Internet threats

supreme court Internet threats

Anyone who has spent any time online has probably gotten a death threat or two. Maybe you were playing Call of Duty and some 11-year-old questioned your sexuality before telling you he'd kill your family. Maybe you offended the legions of desperate Tumblr bloggers in some arcane way and you woke up to a swarm of messages on your dash saying they would hack you and your dog apart with rusty machetes. You probably did what any reasonable person did and rolled your eyes and went about your day.

Statements and threats on the internet aren't usually taken seriously. Both the giver and the receiver are usually anonymous and the threat is usually over the top enough that you laugh and think nothing of it.

Well, the highest court in the United States might be ready to have the final word.

Getting Bullied Prompted Leonardo DiCaprio’s Career

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Drugs, Features,

Leonardo DiCaprioLeonardo DiCaprio claims getting beaten up when he was 15 changed his whole life.

The actor was brought up in a tough area of East Hollywood, Los Angeles, but won a scholarship to University Elementary School in a better part of town, which meant he was in for a shock when he later returned to standard schooling.

"When I went back to the public school system it was like - boom - this is reality. I got beat up the day I arrived because I had the attitude of everyone living harmoniously with one another. That was the motivational thing that happened to me in my life. I was 15, and I said to my mom, 'I want to be an actor. Please take me to auditions.' Because I had to get out of that public school system."

The Wolf of Wall Street star Leonardo, 39, also said his upbringing in an area where there was "a major prostitution ring on my street corner [and] crime and violence everywhere" meant he has never had the desire to take drugs.

Taylor Swift Helps Her Fans Tackle Bullying

Taylor SwiftTaylor Swift tries to help her fans tackle bullying.

The 23-year-old star - who was singled out and picked on at school in Pennsylvania - gives her biggest fans the chance to meet after her Red gigs and uses her platform as an artist to help them discuss inclusion issues they may face.

"After the show we pick fans randomly and they're brought backstage into this amazing tent called Club Red. I go in with about 35 to 40 fans and hear what's going on in their lives - whether someone's picking on them at school or if someone had a party and invited every single girl in the class but them. It happened to me, and that's why as an artist, you should try and help people one-on-one."

Taylor - who is on the Oceania leg of her world tour where she will be performing in New Zealand at the end of the month - previously took to the stage with former X Facto' contestant Cher Lloyd and Ellie Goulding during her US performances and she gushed about her time with them: "Ellie [Goulding] is so talented. I thought she was perfect. Cher Lloyd was amazing. It looked like we'd planned all kinds of moves but we were just moving on the same beats."

Paris JacksonParis Jackson won't be attending her private school again following her alleged suicide attempt.

The 15-year-old aspiring actress, who is the daughter of the late Michael Jackson, claims she was being bullied at her elite school and won't be returning there after being released from hospital in Southern California, where she remains under involuntary psychiatric hold.

A family source told gossip website RadarOnline.com, it "has already been decided she wont be going back to the school she had been attending. Paris had been absolutely miserable at the school for a long time, and there is a clique of mean girls that had been bullying her. It escalated after [new] child molestation claims were made public against her father, Michael. She has felt like an outsider for a long time. There is no way she could return there after the suicide attempt, Paris would be tormented all over again. Paris might be home schooled, and there is talk of her attending a performing arts high school which could be a perfect fit for her. Paris is artistically gifted, and going to a school with others like her could be the perfect solution."

Hailee Steinfeld Opens Up About Being Bullied

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Movies, Features,

Hailee SteinfeldLike so many other stars who are now praised for their talent and beauty, True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld was bullied at school.

The 16 year-old has signed up to support The Trevor Project, an organization that sets out to protect and empower bullied LGBT teens. Steinfeld explained in a recent interview why her bullied past inspires her to help others:

"Bullying is something I went through, from third to sixth grade, when I got pulled out [of school]. I still go through it. And if I can be the person who says, 'Trust me when I tell you it will be OK,' then I will be that person."

Wise beyond her years, Steinfeld also offered some insight as to why bullies act the way they do: "Often bullies are taking something [personal] out on others. If they use that energy to make someone smile, we can save so many people in the long run."

The full interview - in which the Californian teen opens up about upcoming roles - appears in next month's Glamour.

Michael Jackson’s Daughter Bullied at School

Paris JacksonMichael Jackson's 14-year-old daughter was bullied when she started school.

Paris Jackson - the only daughter of the late "Thriller" singer - used to be educated at home alongside her brothers, Prince Michael, 15, and 10-year-old Prince Michael II, who is known as Blanket, but following their father's death in 2009 it was decided they would attend school.

However, Paris - who is trying to carve out a career as an actress - admits their enrollment didn't go down too well with the other students and says she was picked on, but refused to let them upset her: "People try, but it doesn't always work. At school, and some people try to cyber bully me. They try to get to me with words, but that doesn't really work."

Paris also revealed she is wary of making new friends as she's not sure if they like her for her or because she's famous. "If I feel someone is being fake to me, I will just push away," she told Oprah Winfrey.

Kristen Stewart Picked on For Being a Tomboy

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Child Stars, Clothing, Style, Features,

Kristen StewartKristen Stewart was picked on as a teenager for not dressing like her peers. The Snow White and the Huntsman actress opened up about how she was bullied because she was a tomboy.

"Look at a picture of me before I was 15. I am a boy. I wore my brother's clothes, dude! Not like I cared that much, but I remember being made fun of because I wasn't wearing Juicy jeans. I didn't even think about it. But it's not like I didn't care that they made fun of me. It really bothered me. I remember this girl in sixth grade looked at me in gym and was like, 'Oh my God! That's disgusting - you don't shave your legs!" she told Vanity Fair.

Kristen also complained that she has "been criticized a lot for not looking perfect in every photograph."

"I get some serious s**t about it. I'm not embarrassed about it. I'm proud of it. If I took perfect pictures all the time, the people standing in the room with me, or on the carpet, would think, 'What an actress! What a faker!' That thought embarrasses me so much that I look like s**t in half my photos, and I don't give a f**k. What matters to me is that the people in the room leave and say, 'She was cool. She had a good time. She was honest.' I don't care about the voracious, starving s**t eaters who want to turn truth into s**t."
