Microsoft announces Windows Phone 8 SDK now available

Throughout all the hoopla of the past week with the launch of Windows 8, Surface, and Windows Phone 8, developers have been left wondering how they'd go about coding up their apps for Microsoft's new smartphone platform. Well, at this morning's Build 2012 conference (see our live Build 2012 keynote coverage,) that question was answered with the announcement that the Windows Phone 8 SDK is now available. You can easily share code between phone, tablet, and PC, making multi-platform apps with relative ease.

Live from Microsoft’s Build 2012 keynote!

We are live, front and center, in one of the largest tents ever contructed getting ready for Microsoft to kick off Build 2012, it's annual developer conference. It's been a big week for Microsoft, what with the launch of Windows Phone 8, its Surface tablet, and of course, Windows 8. The last piece of the puzzle is making sure developers are on board with all the new stuff, and Build is where Microsoft will push that message. Microsoft Windows 8 Developer Preview launches at BUILD

Microsoft has officially launched the Windows 8 Developer Preview at its BUILD conference this morning, with the download actually becoming available later this week in the new Windows Dev Center, but if you're at BUILD, you'll get your copy there. In addition, they've also announced the Windows Store - yep, it's pretty much like the Mac App Store, but, for Windows. The store will include Metro-style apps (think Windows Phone 7 UI) as well as the more traditional Windows apps that you're used to. We'll be going hands-on with the Windows 8 Developer Preview in just a bit, and will report back with our thoughts!
Samsung Windows 8 tablet image leaks

We're expecting the Windows 8 tablets to debut this morning at Microsoft's BUILD conference, but as is the norm nowadays, we've got what we believe to be a legitimate spy shot of the device right here. Rumor has it that this tablet is a quad-core slate, made by Samsung, and rocking Windows 8 software...and it looks strikingly similar to an iPad. We'll have more later today, once BUILD kicks off.
