Steven Tyler Attacks Celebrity Rehab, Dr. Drew

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Drunk, Rumors,

Steven Tyler Steven Tyler is holding practically nothing back in his book Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, sharing his opinions on reality TV, among many subjects. While recounting one of his stints in rehab, Tyler alleges that he observed some of the making of Celebrity Rehab, and the picture he paints is unflattering… to say the least.

Tyler claims that Steven Adler, a patient at Las Encinas (where Rehab is filmed) and former Guns N Roses member, was asked to fake his behavior for the benefit of the cameras. “They wanted him to act out his own messed-up state when he entered rehab. It was ghoulish and unreal,” Tyler writes. “They gave him 30 grand for the episode, he snorted it all, crashed his car, and he ended up in jail detox.”

Levi Johnston to Write Tell-All Book

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Rivalries, Where Are They Now?,

Levi Johnston

Whether they like it or not, Levi Johnston’s name will always be linked to the Palin family. Johnston first came to attention as the father of Bristol Palin’s illegitimate child; the Playgirl and the politics came later. Now, you can add author to his credentials.

Johnston has written a tell-all titled Deer in the Headlights: My Life in Sarah Palin’s Crosshairs, and if any part of the book is as sensational as the title it’s already a bestseller. The book comes out this fall.

iSteve, official Steve Jobs biography coming in 2012

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple,

iSteve Steve Jobs biographyThere are many unauthorized biographies of Steve Jobs and even a TV movie (below), but the Apple chief has agreed to team up with Walter Isaacson for an authorized biography that will hit bookstores (and presumably, iBooks) next year.

Simon & Schuster will publish the book, humbly titled "iSteve: The Book of Jobs," in early 2012, the publisher said in a Sunday statement. It will draw from three years of "exclusive and unprecedented" interviews Isaacson has conducted with Jobs. Isaacson has also interviewed Jobs's family members, colleagues, and Apple competitors.

"This is the perfect match of subject and author, and it is certain to be a landmark book about one of the world's greatest innovators," Jonathan Karp, publisher of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement. "Just as he did with Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, Walter Isaacson is telling a unique story of revolutionary genius."

The news was first reported by the AP.

Paul Allen portrays Bill Gates as a brilliant backstabber

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Microsoft,

Paul Allen Idea ManIn an excerpt from an upcoming book released Wednesday, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen paints co-founder Bill Gates as a technical genius, but as a ruthless executive who tried to dilute Allen's financial stake in the early days of Microsoft.

In the excerpt from Idea Man, Allen's upcoming book, Gates is characterized as an intensely focused mathematical genius, with a penchant for social quirks. Allen describes himself as the glue that held Microsoft together.

Idea Man is scheduled to be published this month by Portfolio, a member of the Penguin Group. The excerpt was published by Vanity Fair.

The crux of the story seems to lie in the last anecdote Allen relates: a scene in which Gates and Steve Ballmer, brought in to run the company, apparently scheme to dilute Allen's stake in the company. Allen describes Ballmer as looking like "an operative for the N.K.V.D." Allen, then suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma, recounts the scene:

Insider Spills More American Idol Secrets

American Idol

Justin Buckles, writer of American Idol Exposed, continued his intimate interview with Vote For the Worst, the famous anti-Idol site, this week. Buckles worked for American Idol during season 5, and (like us) became so disgruntled with the victory of Taylor Hicks that he had to walk away.

Okay, so maybe Taylor Hicks was only part of the problem. According to the in-depth interview, Buckles had a lot of personal and professional reasons for washing his hands of television’s number one show.

Buckles had tons of interaction with the contestants during his season. He paints a picture of a very toxic environment with exhausted singers, horrifying stage mothers and over-confident contestants who begin letting the fame go to their heads. But, perhaps there was some reason they were so stressed...

Former American Idol Staffer Spills Show Secrets

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Rumors,

American Idol logoIn a new tell-all called American Idol Exposed, former staff member Justin Buckles gives fans an intimate look at what goes on behind the scenes… and some may not like what he’s got to say. The staffer confirms some rumors that American Idol watchers have suspected for years.

In an interview with anti-Idol site Vote For the Worst, Buckles talks about his turning point with the show: “On the audition road for Season 5, production assistants were asked to sit at the [audition] tables and act as producers. This really pushed me over the edge and pretty much started the ball rolling for me in regards to wanting to leave the show.” He said “contestants were one hundred percent scammed, in my opinion, during the Season 5 auditions.”

Do tell. “I saw producers escorting contestants straight to the final round of auditions with the judges,” Buckles continued.

Former Sarah Palin Aide Pens Scathing Tell-All

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Rumors,

Sarah Palin

This is going to be good.

Frank Bailey, a past aide to politician and sometime reality star Sarah Palin, has written a tell-all book that sheds a very harsh light on his former boss. Some segments have been leaked, probably because they’re just too juicy to contain.

According to rumor, the book begins with a quote from Palin: “I hate this job,” referring to her post as Alaska’s governor before she resigned in 2009. And that's just the first page, people.

Bye-Bye Borders, It’s Been Fun

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials,

Too Much Coffee Man

Now that Borders has jumped headlong into bankruptcy, it's revealed that they're deep into Diamond Comic Distributors for $3.9 Million. They also owe Penguin Books $41 Million.

As part of the bankruptcy, Borders will be closing something like 200 of their stores.

I already get my books from Amazon, but with my local Borders closing, where the heck am I going to get my coffee?

Graphic Novels Outsell Snooki

Chew Vol 1It appears that nobody wants the read a book that Snooki claims to have written. The tanned and tiny "star" of MTV's Jersey Shore had her first novel, A Shore Thing published about a month ago. Since then, it's sold less than 9000 copies.

This despite a massive pr push that's seen the little orange pumpkin rolling from TV appearance to TV appearance.

9000 copies.

How does that compare to graphic novel sales? John Jackson Miller at The Comics Chronicles has the scoop.

In 2010, Image's Walking Dead Vol 1: Days Gone Bye sold 43,900 copies, DC's Blackest Night hardcover (19,200), Image's Chew Vol. 1 (13,600), and Dynamite's Boys Vol. 6 Self-Preservation Society (11,100). And that's just a sampling.

In all, some 38 graphic novels outsold Snooki's book and that's just using GN sales figures from the direct market.
