Last Request: Bury Me With My iPhone
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Cell Phones, Handhelds, Misc. Tech, Music, Portable Audio / Video
Noelle Potvin, a counselor for the Hollywood Forever Funeral Home and Cemetery, claims that there are many who want to take their cell phones and BlackBerrys with them when they are buried. Countries such as the UK, Australia and South Africa report the same findings. One incident involved a man who wanted his Bluetooth headset in his ear. Others involve families who put iPod earphones on their deceased loved ones and played a tune when the casket closed. We hope they used some decent batteries.

Obama’s BlackBerry Likely Won’t Be A “Presidential BlackBerry”
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Handhelds, PC / Laptop
He may soon be the 44th President of the United States, but security concerns and record-keeping laws mean that Barack Obama is unlikely to become the first e-mailing president.
When the President-elect is sworn in 64 days from now, we expect that his advisers will insist that he hand over his favorite little gadget, his BlackBerry. Not only are there serious concerns about e-mail security (if it’s connected to the internet, it can be hacked), he also faces the Presidential Records Act, which means that all correspondence must be put in the official record and is ultimately subject to public review and possible subpoenas. Although he could, theoretically, craft an Executive Order allowing BlackBerry use — or e-mail in general — there are plenty of aides who can deal with electronic communication for him, likely making presidential BlackBerry use unnecessary.
Obama is, however, sending a clear signal that he is venturing into new, uncharted territory; for the first time, the weekly Democratic radio address has been released as a web video on YouTube (up top) — it will also continue to air on the radio and the President-elect plans to publish these weekly updates through the transition and then from the White House. We’re hoping this will encourage more Americans to take an active, well-informed role in the political process — and rumor has it that in those future presidential videos there will be one previously absent device gracing the historic presidential desk: a laptop computer. Only time will tell.

Apple Passes RIM And Becomes Number 2 Smartphone Maker
Posted by Ponzi Black Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Corporate News
An analyst has confirmed that Apple has made it to number 2 where smartphone vendors are concerned. The iPhone has become a holder of 17.3 percent of the market share with RIM trailing at 15.2 percent. Apple also came in with the highest marks in customer satisfaction, operation, physical design, operating system, battery aspects, and features. RIM could bounce back to the 2nd place mark with the Bold and Storm, but with the growing sales of iPhone and the “coolness” of the Apple brand, it will certainly be a challenge for RIM. The results are due to the 6.9 million iPhones shipped during the summer months with no signs of slowdown even though the economy has moved in the other direction.

BlackBerry Bold available for free with plan
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Cell Phones, Handhelds, Hot Deals
The new BlackBerry Bold, which was released yesterday, is suddenly coming to Wal-Mart at an amazing price: FREE.
Billed as the BlackBerry Bold Unlimited, the catch to this seemingly great deal is that you have to sign on with a two-year contract, at least a 1350 minute talk plan and unlimited text messaging, on top of the required BlackBerry data plan – not a bad deal if you talk and text that much anyway. The deal is through LetsTalk, if you’d like to skip the middleman and order direct from them.
