You know that streaming radio service that we’re so fond of in these parts? Well, Storm owners will be able to start enjoying Slacker directly on their phones, starting today. Verizon Wireless is pushing the Slacker Radio app to BlackBerry Storm phones, and the app will connect to V CAST as well. If you are listening to a track that is also available on V CAST, you’ll see an icon come up that will let you purchase and download it instantly, without interrupting your flow. Consumer Reports: iPhone 3GS is Best

iPhone 3GSConsumer Reports says that Appleā€™s new is still at the top of the smartphone heap in terms of multimedia, browsing, battery life, display, and navigation. The with WebOS, Samung Omnia, and BlackBerry Storm were close behind, however. The Pre scored higher in messaging and multitasking. CR also claims that Verizon seems to be the carrier that most believe to be the best when surveyed, but that’s no big surprise.

BlackBerry Popularity Tops iPhone

RIM has taken the top spot with its BlackBerry as the most popular smartphone in the first quarter of 2009. Their market share jumped 15%, giving it 50% of the market, while Apple and Palm each lost 10%. A study by NPD claims that aggressive promotions such as the “buy-one-get-one” Curve deal contributed to the popularity. The Storm came in third while the Pearl came in fourth. The G1 took the 5th spot. We expect that this may be a temporary position, as Apple will undoubtedly fight back.

[Editor: Oh, and of course, Apple didn’t do any sort of “buy one, get one” with the iPhone, which is certainly helping pad those BlackBerry numbers.]

Apple Passes RIM And Becomes Number 2 Smartphone Maker

iphone 3gAn analyst has confirmed that has made it to number 2 where smartphone vendors are concerned.  The has become a holder of 17.3 percent of the market share with RIM trailing at 15.2 percent.  Apple also came in with the highest marks in customer satisfaction, operation, physical design, operating system, battery aspects, and features.  RIM could bounce back to the 2nd place mark with the Bold and Storm, but with the growing sales of iPhone and the “coolness” of the Apple brand, it will certainly be a challenge for RIM.  The results are due to the 6.9 million iPhones shipped during the summer months with no signs of slowdown even though the economy has moved in the other direction.
