A montage of clips from Tuesday’s performance round as the Beatles music played in the background. Such was the intro of the Top 9 results show of . Would this results show be the one to feature the judges’ save? Ryan Seacrest promised “shocking” vote tallies at the top of the episode, which was jam-packed with a mishmash of performances (with a few results thrown in).

Idol Gives Back will air in two weeks. To aid in the effort, Idol judges are donating prizes and items to raise money. Just go to the official Web site for details or to give.

The Top 9 appeared on stage to sing a medley of Beatles tunes. Lee DeWyze kicked it off beautifully. As “Here, There and Everywhere” progressed and fans screamed, I couldn’t help but feel impressed. When Andrew Garcia came out with “Got To Get You Into My Life” the number truly became fun. The wardrobe was really, really good too. Other songs featured in the medley included “Fool on the Hill,” “All You Need is Love” and “She Loves You.” It was definitely the best group performance of the season.

American Idol 9: Top 9 Perform

Songs from the Lennon/McCartney songbook were the feature of the week (which is almost every single tune The Beatles ever recorded, minus a few little ditties like Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Ringo Starr’s “Octopus’s Garden“). Sir Paul McCartney didn’t have enough time to mentor the Top 9, but he did offer a pre-recorded video message for the contenders.

Ringo Starr Talks Age, Religion

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip,

Ringo StarrFormer Beatles drummer says religion has had a huge influence on his life.

“I feel the older I get, the more I’m learning to handle life. Being on this quest for a long time, it’s all about finding yourself,” the 69-year-old said. “For me, God is in my life. I don’t hide from that. I think the search has been on since the 1960s.”

Ringo - whose late bandmate John Lennon controversially proclaimed were bigger than Jesus at the height of the band’s fame - credits his faith with helping him turn his life around following his battles with drugs and alcohol in the ‘70s.

Speaking at an event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, Starr explained: “I stepped off the path there for many years and found my way back onto it, thank God.”

Ringo - real name Richard Starkey Jr. - also revealed he isn’t concerned about turning 70 later this year. “I don’t think 70 is as big as 40 was. That was like, ‘Oh God, 40!’” he said. “There’s that damn song, ‘Life Begins At 40’. No, it’s not so big any more. I am nearly 70 and I’d love to be nearly 40 but that’s never going to happen.”

John Lennon and Yoko Ono

Yoko - who was blamed by many Beatles’ fans for causing the legendary band to split - previously claimed she wouldn’t release a book for fear of hurting the families of people close to the group, including Lennon’s ex-wife. John and Cynthia - who had a son Julian together - divorced in 1968, one year before his marriage to Yoko, the mother of his son Sean.

The music mogul - who once rejected the Spice Girls, the best-selling girl group of all time - says he would have kicked the iconic band off his British TV talent show unless they fired drummer Ringo Starr. “If The Beatles came on the show we would have said, ‘We’ll take those three - , John Lennon and George Harrison - but probably lose the drummer,’” the 49-year-old said. “With Ringo, I’m afraid, we would have said ‘bad news’.”

Speaking in a US television interview with his Britain’s Got Talent co-star Amanda Holden, Simon also revealed what drives him. “I like winning, Amanda. That’s what excites me,” Cowell admitted.

Simon is now focusing on the career of Scottish singing sensation , who will perform on the final of America’s Got Talent next week. Her debut album is due for release in November, and is expected to shoot to the top of the charts in America and Britain.
