Italy Deems Julianne Moore Ads Indecent
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Models, News, Jewelry,
For a city known for its Renaissance paintings that feature plenty of women wearing little clothing in a continent that seems to wonder why many Americans fear nudity, it may come as a shock to many that Venice, Italy has banned the above Bulgari ad, starring actress Julianne Moore from its scheduled billboard duties.
“An advertisement showing a nude woman on a divan is not appropriate for St Mark’s Square,” Mayor Giorgio Orsoni said.
While Moore may not have clothes on, the smiling, playful lion cubs seem to diffuse the expected sexual charge of the photo. That, of course, wasn’t enough for the folks who oversee what is posted around their city…

Pete Rose to be honored by Cincinnati Reds for 25th anniversary
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, MLB,
Pete Rose, baseball’s infamous gambler, still is not – and may never be – in the MLB Hall of Fame. But the former Cincinnati Reds player and manager will be honored by his former club for the 25th anniversary of his breaking Ty Cobb’s all-time career hits total. The Reds received permission from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig to honor the disgraced hitter for just the second time since being banned in 1989. Rose missed out on the Reds honoring of the 1975 World Series champions in 2000 as well as the old-timers softball game commemorating the closing of Cinergy Field in 2002.

Debating the head shots yet again
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Front Office, Injuries, NHL,
They’re talking about it again. Coming off the heels of Matt Cooke’s concussion-inducing headshot to Boston’s Marc Savard. Savard left the arena on a stretcher, Cooke didn’t even spend a second in the penalty box. It’s unknown if Savard will play again this season. As for Cooke, based on recent suspensions, he may be back with Pittsburgh before the playoffs. Since the Penguins don’t play again until Thursday night, director of hockey operations Colin Campbell is taking his time deciding Cooke’s punishment.

YouTube Blocked By Chinese Government

YouTube spokesperson Scott Rubin claims that the site is currently blocked in China and has been since Monday. It has not been formally determined whether it was purposeful or a technical glitch. This is not the first time this has happened, as earlier this month access was denied because of the 1 year anniversary of protests by Tibetans. Since January, the government has closed several sites that were popular with Tibet. Not the first to censor the site, China joins Turkey and Thailand’s previous blockages.

Naomi Campbell Visits Ugly Betty
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, Gossip,
In the past few months, controversial stars have seen their share of the comedy spotlight. First, we had Britney Spears on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. Then NBC welcomed Paris Hilton on My Name is Earl. Now it’s ABC’s turn to jump into the action.
For Ugly Betty‘s season finale (airing May 22), the producers will be bringing on troubled supermodel Naomi Campbell. (Apparently she hasn’t done anything to ban herself from the show’s set.) Like Victoria Beckham’s cameo last season, Campbell is expected to play some version of herself. In other words - Amanda better hide the staplers.
And just a reminder, Project Runway fans should make a point of tuning in on May 1. That’s when Christian Siriano and Nina Garcia are scheduled to make their entrances.
