Text Messaging While Driving Verboten in CA

Text MessagingThe Governator signed a bill in July that requires Californians to use hands free devices when driving and using a cell phone. He has now gone one step further by banning text messaging while driving. The SB28 makes drivers keep their “hands on the wheel and their eyes on the road,” Schwarzenegger said in a written statement. Other states have already adopted the law and considering the statistics about how dangerous the practice is, we hope they all do.

Cuba Lifts Cell Phone Ban

Havana Phone UserNot only is Cuba now allowing its people to purchase computers and appliances, they will have unlimited, unrestricted use of cell phones. ETECSA should be giving the little people full mobile service sometime this week. Previously, residents had to use other names or workplace to be able to have access. Since it must be paid with foreign currency, it is believed that this will still restrict use by Cubans with big bucks. Still, it is a start since there are limits on foreign travel and Internet access for now.

Pakistan Ban of YouTube Causes Blackout

YouTube logoPakistan has decided to block YouTube from its country’s usage because of offensive Islamic content. In fact, its efforts have been blamed for the site’s Sunday two hour blackout. Owner Google claims that it was because of “erroneous internet protocols sourced” from Pakistan Telecom and its PCCW Internet provider. Anyone trying to access the site was diverted to another address. Unfortunately, other countries also felt the effect until YouTube was notified of the circumstances. Pakistan joins Turkey in its censorship, and although Thailand recently lifted its ban, some content is still blocked.
