Vote for Gear Live’s Bleeding Edge TV in the 2012 Podcast Awards!

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements, Features, Videos

Alright guys, we need your help. Gear Live's flagship video show, Bleeding Edge TV, is up nominated in two categories in the 8th annual Podcast Awards. What's cool about that is that we never once asked for anyone to submit us for nominations, so you guys did this all on your own and we totally appreciate that! Now that we are in the running, though, we're asking for your assistance!

The two categories we're up for are the People's Choice Award, and Best Video Podcast. Voting is simple--just head over to the Podcast Awards page and choose Bleeding Edge TV in those two categories, and submit your ballot. You'll get an email confirmation link to confirm your vote, and when you click the link, you are done. If you do this once, you are awesome. You can vote once per day, and if you do that, we will love you forever.

If we end up winning here, we'll be running a major giveaway. We won't spoil the surprise (or generate false hope,) but it'll be good. Again, just head over to the Podcast Awards page and vote for Bleeding Edge TV in the People's Choice and Best Video Podcast categories! Wanna help more? Click here to share this on Twitter!

Tintin by Steven Spielberg

Posted by Tom Mason Categories: Editorials, Movies

Tintin by HergeThe Adventures of Tintin won the Golden Globe award for Best Animated Feature Film.

You know who didn’t get thanked in Steven Spielberg’s acceptance speech for Tintin at the award ceremony Sunday night? The guy who created Tintin: Herge.

Spielberg did say that Hollywood gave him (and Peter Jackson) a chance to turn this “80 year old series of wonderful books into a motion picture.”

It’s hard to be too critical. He had less than a minute to thank people and it probably is prudent politically, socially and financially to thank the people who actually greenlight movies first.

But it would’ve been nice of him to slip in a little Herge mention with all the bankers and executives.

Annie Awards: 2010 Nominations

Sym-Bionic TitanASIFA-Hollywood announced their nominations for the 38th Annual Annie Awards this past week.

The essential animation blog, Cartoon Brew, has a complete list of the nominations.

If you like controversy, be sure to read the comments, too!

A couple of people with comic book connections popped up on the list of nominees.

Stephen DeStefano, artist on Lucky In Love from Fantagraphics, is up for Character Design in a Television Production for his work on the Cartoon Network series Sym-Bionic Titan.

Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn’s Image Comic Firebreather, the Cartoon Network original movie that aired at the end of November, got itself two nominations. In the category Production Design in a Television Production, Barry Jackson is one of the nominees. In the category Directing in a Television Production, director Peter Chung was nominated as well.

2010 Hugo Awards: Phil Foglio, Doctor Who, Shaun Tan!

Girl Genius 9Congratulations to all the Hugo Award winners for 2010 (just announced at this year’s Aussiecon 4 in Melbourne, Australia).

The complete list of winners is at the Hugo site, but let’s pick and choose and look only at what really matters to us: the comics. That’s right, a couple of winners with comic book connections have walked off with their own statue, named after sci-fi pioneer and legendary cheapskate Hugo Gernsback.

In the category of Best Graphic Story the winner was Girl Genius, Volume 9: Agatha Heterodyne and the Heirs of the Storm. It’s written by Kaja and Phil Foglio, illustrated by Phil and published by Airship Entertainment. (Volume 8 won last year which should tell you that if you’re not reading GG, you really should.)

Doctor Who, because all comic book fans love the Doctor, picked up the Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form for “The Waters of Mars,” written by Russell T. Davies & Phil Ford.

The Hugo for Best Professional Artist went to Shaun Tan (and anyone who’s read his books like The Arrival or Tales From Outer Suburbia knows why).

CES 2008: More Award Winners

LtWv VmoteWe could go on all week just on the award winners, but we thought it best to let you snoop them out on your own at the CES website. We didn’t want to neglect some that we have mentioned previously on Gear Live, such as the LtWv Wrist Vmote, the waterproof Sanyo Xacti E1, and the iRobot Looj gutter cleaner. Our congrats to the companies that won as well as the CES that has grown in status from the little trade show that could into a national phenomena.

The Bleeding Edge Wins Best Technology Video Blog At The Vloggies!

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Announcements

I have no idea how we pulled this off, especially with stiff competition like Diggnation, Command-N, Systm, CrankyGeeks, and others - but we did it. Gear Live’s technology video podcast, The Bleeding Edge, won the award for Best Technology Video Blog. This is truly amazing, and an honor, and let’s us know that despite all the silliness and fun we are having doing what we do, there is a movement happening, and we are honored to be a part of it. Check the video above for a nice, truncated recap of The Vloggies. Oh, and yes - we couldn’t make it, and we didn’t send a video acceptance speech because, quite frankly, we didn’t think we would win!
