Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Visits Oprah

Stephenie MeyerTo a different age group, this interview could be bigger than the one with Sarah Palin.

In just a few days from now, Twilight author will be sitting on Oprah Winfrey’s stage. The chat, which comes just two weeks before New Moon finally debuts, will be the only one the writer grants during this promotional tour.

Meyer recently explained the reasoning behind her solo press interview on her blog. “You know I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big,” she wrote.

Look for Stephenie on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday, Nov. 13th.

‘The Golden Compass’ vs. Religion: An Opinion

Polar Bears = Evil?

We saw this weekend. I’m a guy who loves movies. And as such, I set out Friday night to go see what was supposed to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the holiday season. I saw The Golden Compass despite negative critical response and Catholic protests and without reading any of the three Philip Pullman books off which the film is based. The film was dazzling, imaginative and certainly innovative. After having seen the movie I checked out the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly (as well as a few anti-Compass sentiments online) and simply could not believe the garbage I was hearing.

I saw the movie. I watched the fuzzy talking animals. And I tried, with little success, to connect the dots and see how this film was so evil. I tried to pick out the atheistic sentiments. And I tried - really, really tried - to put myself in the Catholic League’s shoes. And honestly - what is the big freakin’ deal?

Ok, I get it - Philip Pullman isn’t exactly going to win “Christian Of The Year.” The allegory within his His Dark Materials trilogy is not exactly what one might call “God friendly.” But why, in a country based on the principals of religious freedom, is this man, this movie, and everyone behind it, being vilified? I’ve read the arguments and I understand what they are saying, but for the life of me (and with all personal religious beliefs set aside),  I can’t understand how this one film is going to be detrimental to society?

J.K. Rowling Writes Harry Potter Spinoff

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Family, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip,

J.K. RowlingDespite several press conferences and comments that she would like to branch out into writing new things, has completed the first spinoff. So much for the integrity of writing.

The book – an illustrated collection of fairy stories – is The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and only seven copies will be printed. One will be auctioned for charity, the others given away as gifts. Rowling drew the illustrations in the book herself and provided the handwriting for five of its stories. The book is mentioned in Rowling’s last Harry novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

‘October Road’ Returns to ABC

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Renewals,

October Road, the show that made a brief appearance last March, will be returning to next month.  The show stars as Nick Garrett, a famous author who returns to his home town after 10 years away. (I tell you this because chances are you didn’t watch it either.)  (That 70’s Show) plays Nick’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his possible child.

October will make a one-stint appearance Thursday, Nov. 22nd @ 10pm.  It will then slide into its regular time slot starting Monday, Nov. 26th @ 10pm (presumably after is wrapped up).

I hate to say the series won’t last more than another six episodes—but I’ll go and ahead and do just that.  The last time a show made a one-time Thursday appearance, it quickly disappeared days later.  (If you haven’t guessed, I was referring to Viva Laughlin.)  And has anyone else noticed that October is premiering on Thanksgiving??  My bet’s on four new episodes…tops.

Hogwarts Gets a New Home

Harry PotterOkay, so the books are set in Britain. But that didn’t stop India from battling author for the right to build a life-sized replica of the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry in their country. The Delhi High Court threw out Rowling’s claim that the building would be a copyright infringement, giving builders the go-ahead on the huge project. The building, being constructed out of papier mache and bamboo, will become part of the biggest Hindu religious celebration in eastern India this month. Hogwarts’ exterior will be completely replicated, even featuring an imitation marble staircase and stone floor in the entrance hall, which will be lit by flaming torches.
