Cuddle the ‘08 Candidates - Cabbage Patch Style
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Photos, Breaking News,
Limited edition Star Wars action figures. The Princess Diana beanie baby. Every so often, there comes along a must-have toy that’s made for those who remain kids at heart. But they’re not called toys - they’re called collector’s items, and that makes obsession okay. For those who love the idea of the ungettable, Christmas just came early. Believe it or not, the minds behind Cabbage Patch Kids actually found a way to make John McCain look cuddly.
Four new dolls have recently been unveiled by the famous toy line, one-of-a-kind creations that some collectors would stoop to almost any means just to own. Your favorite candidate may not win the upcoming election…but they could score a spot in your curio cabinet.
That’s right: there’s a Sarah Palin Cabbage Patch Kid doll. She’s wearing a red power suit, fashionable glasses and a big smile. Her arms seem spread open, almost as if to offer a hug. It’s every bit as adorable as buyers might want it to be.

FCC Authorizes Free Wireless Internet Band
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Internet, Wireless / WiFi,
The FCC has released a report that says that utilizing a new U.S. radio band for free wireless service will not overly interfere with cell phone use that has a nearby band. The agency is thinking of auctioning off frequencies in the AWS-3 (Advanced Wireless Services 3) band that is between 2155 and 2175 MHz if operators offer free service. The auction’s earliest date is set in June or July 2009 and once decided, the FCC would have to set rules for usage of the band.

eBay Adjusts Pricing for “Buy It Now” Items
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Internet,
eBay has finally taken the Amazon hint and is altering its fee structures for “Buy It Now” items. Going into effect next month, sellers of those and “Fixed Price” items will only pay $.35 for up to 30 days. Buyers can now only pay with credit or debit card, or PayPal.
Scot Wingo, from ChannelAdvisor, says about former opposition to fixed price sales, “The previous management tried to fight it. This management is more willing to ride along with it.”
No doubt eBay is hoping that this will increase flat out sales during the upcoming holiday season.

Lord Sells Life on eBay
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smart Home, Internet,
Remember when we told you about Ian Usher? Now David Piper is following suit by auctioning off his life on eBay through August 11. Originally, the Lord of Warleigh placed an ad in the International Herald Tribune in 2002 seeking a mate and received more than 2,000 replies. However, the one he chose didn’t work out. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, he plans to move to London for treatment and figures he should get about £6 million. Items include six acres, contemporary art, a waterside residence with a view of the Channel, his two Bentleys, and possibly contact info on those ladies he turned down.
(Oddly enough, when we went back to the eBay site, it claimed that bidding was over. Maybe the chap has decided to remain the master of his domain.)

Win a Meeting with Miley Cyrus
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Television,
In an attempt to raise money for her family’s charity (and probably sound good PR for herself), Miley Cyrus is auctioning off a “meet and greet” with her at an upcoming red carpet event.
The person who bids the most money for the Pappy Cyrus Family Foundation - an organization that supports underprivileged children - will have the opportunity to join the singer at the November premiere of Bolt, an animated Disney film Cyrus is a part of. The bidding, which began last night and ends July 29, currently stands at just over $2000. (I believe parents paid just about that much for tickets to her last concert tour.)
Other items up for grabs in the eBay auction include clothing actually worn by the star and autographed posters and cds. You can learn more about the fundraiser from Miley in a video clip found after the jump.

Matchstick Tower Bridge Up for Bid
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Design, Misc. Tech, Toys,
Artist Michael Williams has created a London Tower Bridge out of 1.6 million matchsticks by using photos and images in books. The scaled-down perfectly proportioned creation is 800 ft. long and has an illuminated 52 gun galleon underneath. The water is also filled with lights. While it took him a decade to build, Williams now wants to sell the clever structure to fund a studio. Head over to his site if you want to make a bid. Smokers and pyromaniacs should probably not apply.
