Google Chrome iOS review

Google Chrome for iOS was announced during the Google I/O 2012 keynote on day 2, bringing Google's popular browser to the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Well, kind of.

You see, Chrome for iOS isn't really Google Chrome as far as the rendering of web pages goes. It's no different than any other third-party or in-app browser in iOS. In a nutshell, it's a wrapper for WebKit. Even more disappointing, only Mobile Safari gets to use the souped-up version of WebKit on iOS, featuring the Nitro engine. Third-party apps don't get access to Nitro, which means that web pages will load noticeably slower if they've got Javascript in them. So, what exactly does Chrome for iOS have to offer? Let's take a look.

Xbox Smart Glass

E3 is right around the corner (a.k.a. next week) and word has slipped that Microsoft is planning to introduce a product called Smart Glass at the event. Xbox Smart Glass will be a companion application that you use with the console that will allow you to send video to the Xbox 360 from a smartphone or tablet, similar to what you can do with an iOS device and Apple TV using AirPlay. The cool part? Aside from naturally running on Windows 8 tablets and Windows Phone devices, Smart Glass will also run on iOS and Android in a multiplatform play for supremacy. About time, Microsoft.

Really? I thought it was time that we took a closer look at why Facebook Camera makes perfect sense, and how it really doesn't compete against Instagram at all.
