YouTube, the baked-in but soon-to-be-exiled from iOS 6 app, is back in the form of a Google-submitted app in Apple's App Store. The timing couldn't be more perfect since the public release of iOS 6 is just eight days away. Apple is slowly but surely detoxifying itself from Google. So, if you're thinking of updating your hardware to iOS 6 next week, and can't live without watching your precious cat videos, be sure to download this app. An iPad-optimized version will be released "shortly." Also, be sure to subscribe to Gear Live on Youtube.

Tweetbot for Mac 0.8.0 beta now available
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Software,
Tweetbot for Mac is progressing quite nicely, and today has moved from alpha to beta with the release of version 0.8.0. Unfortunately, thanks to Twitter's new asinine rules for developers, only those who has already authorized Twitter for Mac to be used with their Twitter accounts can use the app, so if you weren't an alpha user, then this won't do anything for you. Here are the changes and improvements that are found in Tweetbot 0.8.0:
- lots of bug fixes
- can paste images into new tweet window again
- can copy tweets on timeline
- can do ‘open in new column’ (they also have keyboard shortcuts)
- multi-column swiping and keyboard support much improved. Use tab shift/tab to move between columns.
- better keyboard support: status detail + many other views
- profile view: can scroll user information so can see more tweets
- drag and drop tweets has been improved
- gap loading works properly now
- context click on tweet action buttons in timeline
- did I mention we fixed a bunch of bugs too?

Pomodorable brings refreshing touch to task management on the Mac
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Software,
This morning Pomodorable, a new task management and productivity app from Monocle Society, hit the Mac App Store. Pomodorable relies on the Pomodoro technique, a method of accomplishing things on your task list by using a 25-minute timer and focusing on one item exclusively during that timeframe, while also logging distractions.
The nice thing about Pomodorable is how versatile the software is. You can use it exclusively as your task management (and time management) app, but if you're already using an alternative task manager like iCloud Reminders, OmniFocus, or Things, then you can continue using those apps to manage your tasks and Pomodorable will two-way sync between them. This way, you don't need to change how you do things, while still taking advantage of Pomodorable's powerful time features.

Amazon Instant Video now available for iPad
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Entertainment, iPad Apps, Video Apps, Free Apps,
Today Amazon has released its long-awaited Instant Video iPad app on Apple's App Store. If you're an Amazon Prime member, this means that you have access to the entire Prime Instant Video catalog, but anyone can access purchased content on-demand as well. We've been playing with it this morning, and it works just as you'd expect it to, with badges indicating which pieces of content are available for free to Prime members.
One nice bonus is that the app supports AirPlay, essentially bringing Amazon Instant Video to your Apple TV. Sure, it's not built-in like Netflix or the newly-added Hulu Plus, but it still allows you to enjoy Amazon's streaming catalog on your television if you own an Apple TV. You can download the free Amazon Instant Video app now.
Google Wallet now works with all credit and debit cards, adds remote wipe feature
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Google, Software,
In our opinion, the one big factor that limited the appeal of Google Wallet was the fact that it has only been compatible with CitiBank MasterCard. Not exactly something that the masses have in their wallets. Today, that changes, as Google has announced that Wallet is now compatible with all Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover debit and credit cards. That's progress!
Also added is a remote wipe feature that allows users to disable Google Wallet remotely, blocking usage of the app with that device and clearing off card and transaction data as well.
You can now use Google Wallet to pay at over 200,000 locations across the US. You can download the new update today from Google Play.

Google Fiber to bring 1000 Mbps speeds, TV, free Internet to Kansas City
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Broadband, Corporate News, Google, Home Entertainment, Internet,
Today Google finally took the wraps off of its long-awaited Google Fiber service. Focusing on Kansas City, Google Fiber is both an Internet service and television service, and Google showed off just how awesome the service will be.
First, the Internet speeds. Google Fiber provides gigabit speeds both up and down the pipe. That's 1000/1000 Mbps (which makes our 35/35 connection look atrocious.) The company detailed how far behind the USA is in terms of speed and pricing, and is looking to invoke some major change. Google Fiber Internet will also come with 1TB of Google Drive cloud storage, and there will be no bandwidth caps or overage fees. But that's not all…
