iPad In-Store Pickup

Hey, are you one of those future owners who decided to do an in-store reservation rather than relying on FedEx to get your new bundle of joy to you on day one? If so, here’s the scoop on how things will go down at your local Apple Store this Saturday, when the iPad will finally be unleashed. On April 3, Apple Stores will open at 9:00 am, at which time anyone standing in line with an iPad reservation will get to walk in and pay for their device. Apple will hold all iPads in stock for reservations until 3:00 pm that same day. After 3:00, all iPads that are left are fair game, and anyone can walk in and buy one, until they are all gone. So if you reserved and hoped to get one right away, make sure your calendar is clear this Saturday morning or afternoon, mmkay?

Apple Aperture 3

This morning, when the Apple Store went down, Twitter just about blew up with everyone posting that the new Core i5 MacBook Pros would be launching. Alas, Apple pulled a fast one on us, and instead we’ve got the launch of Aperture 3, the latest in Apple’s professional image management software line. Here are the major bulletpoints of the release, which seems to focus heavily on being more accessible to new users:

  • Organize photos by the people in them using Faces.
  • Use Places to find photos based on where they were taken.
  • Perfect images with nondestructive, edge-aware brushes.
  • Use adjustment presets to apply imaging effects.
  • Browse your entire library with the new full-screen Browser.
  • Create stunning multimedia slideshows that weave together HD video, audio tracks, and custom titles.

We will be giving it a spin, and we’ll let you know what we think. Aperture 3 sells for $199, but if you are upgrading, the price drops to $99. You can grab a 30-day free trial of Aperture 3 as well.

Apple Store Upper West Side

has finally removed the curtain scaffolding that was in place to hide the construction of their new Upper West Side Manhattan Apple Store location. Of course, in typical Apple fashion, the unveiling leaves even more mystery to unravel, as the entire face of the new store is covered in a vinyl curtain, along with an “Opening soon” message. Luckily, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer to get a look at the newest store, which many are saying will be the most impressive in the entire Apple Store chain. The Upper West Side Apple Store is located on the northwest corner of Broadway and 67th street, right near Lincoln Center.

We’ve got one more shot of the store, a mockup, of what the store should look like after the curtain is removed.

Microsoft to open retails stores next door to Apple Stores

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Corporate News, Microsoft,

We do love ourselves a good battle, and it looks like is ready to start putting their dukes up against the super popular Apple retail stores. Not only is Microsoft going to be opening up their own branded retail stores, they are going to put some stories “right next door to Apple stores” this fall. Oh yes, it’s on.

At first glance, you may be wondering what cool, eye-pleasing toys Microsoft would have to even lure people in to their stores. I mean, isn’t almost every consumer electronics store a “Microsoft Store?” Well, it’s all in the approach. We know that the will be released this fall. We know that the will have a nice dashboard update this fall that will bring with it a host of new social features, there’s the Microsoft Surface tabletop, Xbox 360 games, Project Natal, etc. If Microsoft uses some of these popular items as cornerstones for their retail presence, and even allows the chance to get first-looks at some of these things, they may be on to something.

We are ready for the war.

Apple Stores Now Fixing Cracked iPhone Screens

Cracked iPhone screen

Clumsy owners rejoice, because Stores across the country are now fixing cracked iPhone screens in-house. This is definitely a change from the past, as the Apple Store would just hand new iPhones to customers who were still under warranty if they had a cracked screen. Depending on which Apple Store locations you visited, you may have just been outright denied help with a cracked screen as well.

Apple stores now have a process by which they can repair cracked iPhone screen. They have a machine that separates broken glass from the rest of the phone, allowing the Apple store technician to install a new screen.

Of course, if you are out of warranty, the service won’t be free. However, for those of you under AppleCare, you can rest a bit easier knowing that Apple can now repair a cracked iPhone screen, so go ahead and throw away that ugly rubber case.

If you have yet to purchase an , you now have another way of buying it, as Apple is now offering direct online purchase of the phone. Something that hasn’t been seen since the original iPhone, online purchasing is back in effect on the Apple website. Microsoft Plants Kiosk in Front of Apple Store

Microsoft Kiosk

Microsoft, in a clever move, located an “I’m a PC” recording kiosk outside an Apple Store in Birmingham, England. By the way, if you really are a PC, you can upload a photo or video online and you might find yourself in one of their commercials. The company has already selected several of them in ads that are airing on network TV and are part of a $300 million advertising campaign. We’re all for any idea that doesn’t feature Gates and Seinfeld.

Beats by Dr. Dre headphones removing plastic

We’ve been following the headphones ever since we first got some hands-on (and ears-on) time with them back at . The Gear Live group that got to try them out included a few serious audiophiles, and we were thoroughly impressed by the sound that they were putting out, and this is when they were still in the development phase.

We just got a pair of the final production model, and early indications are that they are full of a bit more awesome than they were back then. We will hit you with a proper review soon, but for now, we wanted to get you a nice Beats unboxing gallery, chock full of unboxing shots. We’ve got over 30 images for you to chew on while you wait for these bad boys to launch on July 25th. If you want them, you will find them exclusively in Apple Stores and Best Buy, as well as over at BeatsByDre.com. They will run you $349.95, $50 less than they were announced for back at CES.

Bleeding Edge TV 279: The Wait for iPhone 3G

We were quite nearly first in line at the Alderwood Mall Apple Store in Lynnwood, WA for the launch of .  Sure the purchasing experience was a fiasco, but overall the night was great fun.  We had an exclusive Tap Tap Revenge tournament, along with a giveaway of the excellent Monster LRG iPhone cases, and even an impromptu listening demo of the headphones, which we recently unboxed.

We must admit, towards the end we were kind of jaded over the whole thing, since between everyone in our group we had a 15 iPhone mixture of original iPhones and iPhone 3G units, all of which didn’t work due to the activation issues - but to be fair, the employees at the Alderwood Mall Apple Store location were all top-notch. Check out the full adventure in the video.
